I think there are multiple, smarter ways to get a more secure border that have been talked about in the past couple of months.

Really, tear down all border security and there will be no need to dig tunnels. They will just waltz across like so many Democrats want.

That wasn't the point of the post you responded to. The point was that money spent on a wall is wasted if that money could be spent on more effective methods of stopping illegals. I have seen no evidence that Trump and his people are looking at such options. And it is hardly shocking that the Border Patrol is in favor of any action that send money their way.
And the Democrats are just as stubborn and narrow-minded on this issue as Trump is. So if they say money is the issue, I don't believe that either.

The Border Patrol has clearly said a wall is needed.

Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding!
The real reason the left is opposed to the wall. It has nothing to do with bleeding hearts for asylum seekers.
There is a reason for being against it, one which will not be admitted by a liberal in this thread.
But it's true.

Methods are only as effective as those who are in power at the moment, want them to be. A properly built wall will provide a consistent deterrent.

I’m not opposed to the wall because Trump wants it.
I’m opposed because his supporters want it.

Lol. 5,000,000,000 for more fencing in places that really don’t need it.
Where is most of fencing going to be installed. The Texas border.
They have a river there. And most of the land is inhospitable to humanity.
Waste of my and your cash.

How about a 300 foot wide / 100 foot deep trench extending along the entire border. Paved so that border control vehicles can navigate. What would be the cost on that?
Put it on the US side of the fence so that if they do scale the fence, there's a 100 foot plummet onto cement.

You mean the one where millions of illegals would become legal and able to adjust their status?

I'll ask...
If the wall were free would you be all for it?
