Claiming horses

I noticed this the other day.

12/20/18 Aqu R6 - winner was Daria's Angle at 9-1.
Last out, she was claimed by Diodoro, who usd to trainer and won with her.
This first one of my spot plays for a claim back, but on race day, the trainer was listed as Steve Klesaris? So, I missed the play, but this brought up a question in my mind. Somehow, this horse was claimed by one trainer and ended up starting for another one. So who gets the credit for winning off the claim? Diodoro has only had one start at the current meet and did not hit the board.
Is Diodoro on suspension and Klesaris filling for him?

Not sure how often this happens, but I can see where stats can get mucked up and credit given to the wrong guys.

Any thoughts?

Hey Tom,

I have Klesaris training this horse on 12/20/18 also:

It would appear that Klesaris would get the credit for the win off the claim and I like you only see Diodoro with one start at the current meet who was off the board

Maybe, we track these 2 guys in Claiming races at Aqueduct!!!

I did some research on this for you.

There was a DRF article on 12/7 where Diodoro said he was cutting back on training in NY due to the high costs there.

https://www.drf.com/news/high-cost-w...-trainers-hard

The horse was claimed by Diodoro for Drawing Away Stable and ran for Klesaris for Drawing Away Stable. I assume since Diodoro is getting out of NY, that is why a different Drawing Away Stable trainer is training the horse.

As far as who to credit the win off the claim to, it will be Klesaris, and it appears it should be Klesaris. Of course when you're dealing with an outfit that employs numerous trainers (their website lists 9), hard to say exactly who is working with the horse.

I hope that helps.

Yes, thanks.
I thought he might be on suspension, so Klesaris was filling in for him.
that was why I wondered about who got credit for the claim if Diodoro took him back over next race.

I have been following Turf Paradise, and for the past couple of weeks, horses have been listed as previously trained by Diodoro, now trained by Sean Williams. Williams is listed at the Diodoro web site as an assistant trainer, Klesaris is not. I just looked at the PPs for Wednesday, and Diodoro is back on the list of entries for the day.

Klesaris has been a fairly well-known trainer with a decent-sized barn since the 1990s. I don't see him being anyone's assistant. Both of them working for Drawing Away Stable, as the entries show, makes more sense.
