Alan Rickman

Actor Alan Rickman has died at age 69. He had multiple notable roles in an acting career of nearly forty years (including Professor Severus Snape in the Harry Potter film series), but I will always best remember him as Bruce Willis' adversary Hans Gruber in the 1988 film Die Hard.

On my all time personal Top 5, great plot (which has been frequently copied since), terrific action scenes and endlessly quotable dialouge.

RIP , Mr. Rickman.

It's interesting how his work touched generations. I've seen a distinct split between people my age and older who are all referencing die hard this morning. And my younger friends all referencing Harry Potter. A great actor.

Hard to think of an all-time better movie villain than his portrayal of Hans Gruber in Die Hard

A calm, cool, and collected criminal mastermind without an ounce of humanity in him. I started liking him when he killed the salesman though.

Gruber's face when he said that was priceless. His raised eyebrow said, "Why is my time being wasted by this idiot".

The cast must have had a great time saying those lines.

Wonderful actor. Got to see him on Broadway once. The play was pretty awful, but he still had a great presence and made it almost bearable. Besides the obvious films I will also remember him for Sense and Sensibility, in which he got to be the hero, the wonderfully fun Galaxy Quest, and the fine HBO movie Something the Lord Made.

Loved him as the Metatron in Dogma. A bad week so far for our favourite celebrities.

Heath Ledger the Dark Knight. Photo finish. I guess it's a bad time to be named Hans in the movies.
