Goofy bet at Portland Meadows

Has anybody checked out the Rainbow 6 jackpot bet Portland Meadows is offering on Mondays? The races are all 2 furlongs and seem to be a collection of old fillies and mares, owned by amateurs, and brought out of retirement for this six-week series. I don't know how anybody could handicap ultra-short sprints involving horses with no early speed and almost no recent races.

You don't, however, want to be knocked out by a horse with three legs, so I would recommend including them as well.

These are lotto bets to begin with. And if u handicap them based on normal handicapping your never gonna be the lone ticket

I read that Stronach's son bought horses from "racing clubs" and that the pool was going to have a $100,000 guarantee. Here is the story. http://www.paulickreport.com/news/ra...like-no-other/

They only listed the pool at just under 25K. And carryover only at 7K. Where is the guarantee money? They still lost money, with each race at 3K. That is some operation out there. They must be in the middle of a rain forest because of all the tracks where you would think that the land would be worth more than the operation, it's that dump.

These races are very simple to handicap in all honesty. Most of the horses could be eliminated in the first pass. They simply had no speed.

I actually looked at this sequence last Monday and thought it was kind of cool.

May very well end up being some value since they are guaranteeing the pool.

As the weeks go by there will be movies on the races and wah lah an opportunity to do the work and perhaps gain an edge.

What they're doing with the auction after the races is pretty cool as well.

Going to check it out again this coming Monday. Might try for a piece of the pie.

We know inaction isn't the answer. IMO The Stronach Group and in this case Andy Stronach in particular should be applauded for always thinking outside the box.

Certainly can't argue with the fact they put up the money to buy the horses and guarantee the pool at 100K.

I'm going to get involved.

See you in the pools?

Check out the 14th and 15th races on Monday. They grouped all the horses who have run badly the first two weeks .. ninth or worse .. into the same races. No speed at all. Can't see how anyone can pick the winner other than hitting the 'all' button in those last two races in the sequence.

If you had a full field of horses with three legs one of them would still be the speed so to speak. I also find these races very interesting and fun to handicap. They aslo assign jockeys randomley and they have a contest or bonus for the jockeys based on points.

in today's world racing the way it is has had a major branding problem. the stars of the sport are the horses and the real good ones aren't on the track longer than 2 or 3 years while the jockeys can be on for 30 years or more. Portland Meadows is finding a way to bring some of the focus to the riders. maybe the game can find a way for people to bet on riders on a point system meet to meet to keep interest alive.
