The San Diego H.

So Max Security opens at even money. Is that where he runs?

I think he goes off less than even, he either sets the pace or presses Midcourt, Midcourt's bid will falter at the 3/8's pole, and the gaggle of stalkers won't be able to reel him in. Looks like a nice G2 workout for the Pacific Classic

A little surprised they put 127 lbs on him, most trainers threaten scratching with any kind of impost. Frankel would never run with 127.

he will be 2/5 in that race.

I wouldn't touch this race with a 10 foot pole. I'd say the former Servis runners have been pretty underwhelming so far, but nothing in the field is very inspiring either.

The last thing the owner/breeders need now is an embarrassing loss. Baffert backs off on his other stars from time to time when he feels there aren't doing well. So he must be doing well.

That said, his workout with Leading Score (a 90 Beyer level horse) was OK, but at one point the rider om Maximum, Security was asking harder than the rider on the other horse and he couldn't pick him up. Eventually he caught him and blew him away up, but I didn't think he looked like a HOTY type horse in that work.

I am far more interested in Mike Tyson's comeback than Max's.

Nice event, tough race to bet.

Maximum Security looks to be at his previous baseline and fit.

Should be about 4/5 or even less (3/5?) at fair odds, but figures to be lower on the actual tote.
There's only six horses in the field, and four of them are Baffert and Hronis.

As far as the scenario? I'd guess that Mike Smith will break with Ax Man and give Maximum Security a target/sparring-partner.

It's a horse race, so anything could happen. They have to break, and run around two turns.

If I had some compulsion to take 2/5 on a 3/5 shot, yes, I'd be apprehensive about the Servis incident (as an additional possible negative factor), but I don't see, or expect to see a decline in this specific case.

Roy Jones Jr

Tyson is also doing a "Shark Week" show and promises that someone is going to get bit.

I do like XBTV,they've always done a nice job with the works.
This work is sneaky Class,Security had no interest in the horse on his inside.......but when he picked up the horse on the outside off of the turn he switched into high gear.
You can see him really eyeballing that horse in the pink SC.
MS looked good chasing that one......

Servis was known for workouts so slow they could barely be considered workouts. Maybe the horse was doing what he was used to doing.

Whether anecdotal or not, not sure, but it seems to me when Baffert runs a 2nd horse in a stakes race, the longer half, usually comes in. Can’t see Smith trying to work out the trip as the rabbit for Max. I think he is here to win it.

I saw some stats today, not as bad as you would imagine, more like normal stats, something like 15% win and 50% in the money. Of course a lot of them had figures that said they should win.

I think Baffert getting as much out of Ax Man as he has is one of his better training jobs. The horse is frankly not all that great, unless it rains, which its not.

It'll be interesting to see what Baffert does with a former $16,000 maiden claimer. It's been a long time since he trained something that bottom-of-the-barrel.

The only two horses to consider in this race are the and . I look for Max to go to the lead and fade at the end.
