Yes, correct, they can't treat the track the same because of being in a state park. But then it is because of the track, not because the riders don't want to ride.

Basically. Though the riders did refuse to ride there two Sundays ago. They were also right:-)

Right, the track was a mess.

My original post was a hypothetical, sorry you didn't understand.

Since yesterday's cancellation, as well as today's, had ZERO to do with the racing surface, this is a very stupid question.
As to your second question, even stupider...hypothetically speaking of course.

I am not a fan of synthetic racing but, based on what we are seeing at Gulfstream and Turfway, our field size will likely go up in the Winter if we are running on synth.

Of course they don't fill, Einstein. Do you really expect trainers to keep their stock for dirt racing at a track that writes well less than 50% of their card for them?

It's still a hypothetical.
As it is now you're basically saying that, going forward, NYRA will no longer conduct racing in conditions similar to the last two days. Temps in the mid to upper 20s, wind in the 10-20 mph range. Right?

You keep one upping yourself for stupidity. It's kind of impressive actually.

The wind chill was 6 degrees this morning at 10:00am with winds blowing 25mph. I can only imagine what the wind was like coming off of Jamaica Bay.
How many of you would wear a single piece of UnderArmour and get on an open air vehicle at 35mph into the wind with wind chills as stated? How about having some clods of dirt heaved at your head while trying to hang on as a cross wind hits you? Everyone expresses concern for the jockeys, but some of the posts in this thread are sounding more like "thoughts and prayers".
Looking back to Friday's card, 1:48.39 and 1:49.03 for a mile in this weather does not really make for compelling racing (or consistent handicapping).

Growing up in New England in the 70s, and being around the track (trots and flats) since birth, there was a period of time when I sort of thought all racing happened in the winter, LOL.
The whiff of diesel and melting snow/mud brings me right back to the memories of being on the track apron at SUF, RKM, or Scarborough.
Then one summer day on the way to the beach dad made a detour to Rockingham to make a quick bet and I was a little dumbfounded to see horses racing in good weather!

One thing is for sure if racing on synthetic handle will go way down.

The only sure thing in racing is that there is no sure thing.

I thought the synth track was only going to be used sparingly due to wet weather and off the turf races?

OK. What's the point? Not that you ever really have one.
