Anyone play Laurel Park?

I see the fall season opens Thursday. I have never played it and was wondering about the level of competition, class range for races, track, consistency, etc. I see some low end claimers ($5000) on the card. Thursday entries are HERE.

Do they ever run? I see their entries in the PPs but every time i click on the link its some racing from argentina or some other country.

Why are there no races in Maryland? Didnt Pimlico close for the season a while back?

I think there is a quarter horse track in Utah with a similar name. Laurel Park in MD opens the fall season on Thursday and runs 4 days a week for the rest of the year. Laurel web site.

Pimlico runs in the spring, April to June I think.

I believe they simulcast races from South America after their card ends.

They take South American racing year round, so most days DRF is showing their S.A. entries.
Maryland racing does not overlap Colonial and Timonium, so there has not been any racing there for a while.

To return to your original inquiry - Maryland purses are starting to get inflated by slot (and now table game) money, so this meet is going to be an interesting one to see how the new money affects the quality of racing. I'm assuming (as a Maryland resident) that the meet is going to have higher purses than past years and will attract a higher quality of horses overall.

I don't know if it is one of the reasons for their schedule, but running Wed-Sat instead of Thu-Sun. should give them a big increase in off-track handle. On Sat-Sun they would face big competition from Santa Anita, Gulfstream, football, etc. On Wed., they should be one of the big fish in the pond. I would not be surprised if it was not their biggest day of the week for off-track handle.

If that's the case they should race Monday and Tuesday

Laurel Brown is a non-wagering QH track near Salt Lake City.

Any alternative to Parx I would view as a good thing.
