It might be worth re-examining the logic of scratching the horse out of the horizontals, as long as it's not the first leg of a series. Those pools are set, and allowing for purse only means it's still likely to give an effort for the best placing possible. In other words, a more equitable outcome might have been to pay for the in the double and pick #'s, and scratch him only from the pools in that race.

The worst mess-up I've seen so far in US horse racing. And I've seen some good ones!
Bets on the 1 were being subtracted on the tote board in every cycle.

It was total chaos.

Couldn't believe it.

In California is it the rule that a horse gets scratched no matter what if they break through the gate? Is that why the vet made the decision so fast?

Seems like the starter should have a role in all this. He's got a direct line to the stewards, and some critical info didn't get communicated, apparently.

Something else I realized today, if you have the 2 in horizontals, you also took it in the shorts because the 1 was definitely going to be favored. If you had the 1 and 2 even worse.

Of course it was going to play less with the 1 than the listed will pay once the 2 was scratched if anyone is scoring at home.

The will likely have to let people have alternates from now on. This was bullshit. I can't stand the CHRB and this was just one more reason they should be disbanded

One guy at mnr simulcast last night was the SHOW. Calculated losses as per scratching the #1 were about 3k. And this is not a bettor who frequently makes that kind of score. He started out with a 20 min screamathon and then began running Jerry Rice patterns around the facility-and for 70 (something) the man could really scoot. While running his post-patterns, he, of course, continued to wish unspeakable things on the dmr stewards, and for some reason began throwing dollar bills (not many) at alarmed onlookers. At some point, some sympathetic soul passed him a cold one-which he quickly quaffed without missing a step.

Those who sanctioned the scratch would do well to avoid him for awhile.

Not quite no matter what. But in this situation (horse next to him flipped, they think he broke through, he looked awkward coming out), yeah, he's gonna get scratched.

They even out over the population. Not over the individual.

Some people lucked out on this one. You aren't hearing from them, but they exist. And everyone lucks out occasionally if they play the game enough.

If you don't accept the risk that strange things might kill your bet on unpredictable animals, this isn't the right game to play.

There are cameras everywhere, but your eye witness testimony is all that matters in your world. Now because you were wrong so many times in your early posts you have to throw in worst case scenarios to cover for your initial bad take. There is no need to refute it. It’s just garbage speculation in an effort to save face in your mind.

Any death at the Breeders Cup will be cannon fodder for the anti horse racing agenda. Hell the Los Angeles Times has a headline “Two horses die ahead of Breeders Cup”. It’s a pathetic misleading headline that has absolutely nothing to do with the event. Yet there it is.
My initial take was wrong. But your bashing on the media for accurately covering when our sport kills horses is just ridiculous.

People in this sport have to grow up about media coverage. We don't get to kill horses anymore with nobody watching. That's a good thing, not a bad thing.
And if stewards and vets err on the side of safety, that's a good thing too.
