Hardly a surprise
https://www.theguardian.com/science/...earch-suggests
quote: A key finding was that people with extremist attitudes tended to think about the world in black and white terms, and struggled with complex tasks that required intricate mental steps, said lead author Dr Leor Zmigrod at Cambridge’s department of psychology.
“Individuals or brains that struggle to process and plan complex action sequences may be more drawn to extreme ideologies, or authoritarian ideologies that simplify the world,” she said.

another quote same source: Participants who are prone to dogmatism – stuck in their ways and relatively resistant to credible evidence – actually have a problem with processing evidence even at a perceptual level, the authors found.

This describes you perfectly.
Prone to dogmatism.
You never question liberals or Democrats or ever post negatively about them.
You are the opposite side of the same coin as those whom you criticize here the most...and you don't even realize it.
So how dumb are you?
Very, according to the very sources you reproduce here.

Key word is may. Then again, they may not be. Did you ever stop and think that many people see the black and white described as simply right and wrong. Sometimes looking at things in simplistic terms is the correct way to go about it. Then you have the Unabomber who had extremist views and he did not struggle with complex tasks.

The Cambridge University team of so-called researchers revealed their bias with one glaring statement: "The “psychological signature” for extremism across the board was a blend of conservative and dogmatic psychologies, the researchers said."
They say: "A key finding was that people with extremist attitudes tended to think about the world in black and white terms, and struggled with complex tasks that required intricate mental steps..."
There are concrete and abstract thinkers on both sides of the ideological spectrum...left vs right. Both types of thinking are an inseparable element of one's psyche and rests in one's DNA. To suggest that one type of ideology/psychology is more pron to "extremism" is just plain stupid.
What is "hardly a surprise" is The Guardian running with this gobbledygook, and you, a self-proclaimed doctor, posting it!
For sure, "things rarely change in this regard."
