Common factor on two place longshots at Pocono Saturday

Both were next to last in their races last week, never changing their position, but both were wide for the third quarter.
Is it possible that the drivers realized that their horses couldn't get there and saved it for next week?
I've noticed horses who were last and this did this but I never thought about the next to last horse.
The place prices were $35.60 and $58.60.
Right now,I charted from the results from only a week for a different angle.
So far,3 winners in 12 races, but two of the winners paid $22 and $47.
I'm really waiting for the rest of the tracks to open in April.
Plus,I have to drop everything to travel for the eclipse.

Another one today at Saratoga.
Yankees Beast was 6th all the way in a 7 horse field last time out, going wide in the third quarter.

30-1.No problem.
