Ramon Dominguez

Don't get me wrong. I think Dominguez is a great rider. I see him split horses against all reason, or just slip thru on the rail and carry a horse when others would have given up...but, is it my imagination. or isn't he the worst at breaking from the gate? I've seen him too many times being left at the break, and in New York, this is death.

I dont like the way he winds up his stick to whip. Too much wasted action if you ask me.

Pretty bad ride in Race 8 on the chalk at Aqueduct on Saturday.

I thought he stopped doing the whip windup after the Scrappy T incident.

He is able to ride from both the frontend and coming off the pace. One dimensional jocks dont win like he does. He also can tell you a lot of things about your horse once the race is over that most jocks cant. Very smart rider!

But don't you think he gets into too much trouble, especially on the turf? He always seems to crowd up horses butts. Rarely goes around, even when he has plenty of time and horse.

He hasnt been on the turf since November so we will see in a few weeks when they are back on it. He also was in Delaware last summer and I believe they shut the turf course down early due to the condition of it. He will get plenty of chances on the NY sod this spring and summer. Was there a race in particular that he had an issue in?

He's ridden full-time at Saratoga two of the last three summers, so I saw a lot of him. Yes, one bad ride when I had some cash on him, but it was just something I noticed in his style. He seems to love coming between horses most times. I realize that's the way to win on turf, but sometimes he seems to do it too much, which gets him in trouble.

I bet him last year he was on one of Contessas horses an entry with Hill they went off at 4/1 Hill went to the front and never looked back. Had Hill not been part of the entry he would of been 15/1.

its your imagination that you see Dominguez as a great jock

to avoid any nonsense back and forward childish arguments - I'll just say that he will begin to show his true colors and disapear into the back ground as the jockey colony begins to upgrade in talent - you can hold me to that.

He's not great, but he absolutely will be competitive in New York full time. Last year at Saratoga he was 5th in wins and 4th in purses won. That's as competitive a meet as there is anywhere and he hardly disappeared into the background.
