By my Humble Numbers I gave Flightline a 124.

So you think he ran par for a G1 older male race? So average?

Waiting for TimeformUS (pace adjusted) and TG (ground adjusted).
Then comes the fun part, debating them.

Wow. And everybody was thinking it was just BAD. Everybody can come up with their own word to describe it.

I was there a couple days last week, including last Saturday in what I would call an intentionally down card (saving for this weekend), and the last thing I thought coming out of the trip and the meet in general was that California racing is dead.
In fact I think it proves that if you have a quality product of full fields you will handle good numbers and people will be interested. I have no idea how the numbers are for the meet but the races have been great. Today is another solid betting card.

Official TimeformUS Chart of the Pacific Classic. Running lines are in PP format, lengths behind the leader.

I misread, I thought you were saying par was 124, but it was 112-114. My bad.

In the "context" of what actually happened in that race...saying Sham didn't fire is kinda odd.

That's not the context that matters. The context is a conversation of "who did he beat". When a good horse finishes last, we generally don't treat that the same way as if he finishes second when we evaluate "who did he beat?".

I think when said horse is dueled into defeat by the winner, it definitely counts.

I think it’s reasonable to say that Secretariat’s margin of victory was enhanced by the fact that he dueled the 2nd best horse into defeat and the rest of the field wasn’t very strong (not mention that the race was 12F and margins tend to be larger). I don’t think it’s correct to say Sham didn’t fire.

Isn’t it great we can argue about a race run 49 years ago?
