DuckDuckGo works great. I don't think you'll be missing anything from searching on DuckDuckGoGo compared to Google. In some cases, DuckDuckGo might reveal something different that Google has censored. Plus, searching is more secure on DuckDuckGo.
Any of the alternative search engines work fine minus the map. As much as I hate Google, I'm forced to use their map because nothing has matched it to this point.
I used DuckDuckGo for a while, but I would also recommend Brave and their search engine. Brave's own browser is excellent as well, especially at stopping ads.

Brave used to be good at getting around paywalls, now not so much.

For anti-paywalls, try this:
https://archive.ph/
In addition, try copying the URL and opening it incognito.
BTW, Brave will, on occasion, create issues with sites that will not grant access if you don't "put shields down."

Every time Google prompts me to sign in, NFW. If i highlight anything I get a drop down search in DuckDuckGo? I like it, anything that flips the bird to Google I am for.
