Tim Duncan retires

For reasons unknown to y'all, he's without a doubt my favorite basketball player of all time.
A true professional and one of the all time greats.

Thanks for the memories you old Crucian !

The most famous Virgin Islander of them all.

I always wonder what would have happened if the Celtics had gotten him.The Celtics tanked that year, had the worst record but lost the ping pong lottery.Duncan walked into a perfect situation because David Robinson and Sean Elliot were hurt which led to San Antonio having a bad enough season to be in the running but they came back to the elite next year (and the next year and the next year...).

Let Greg Popovich have the last word

"If I try and coach this guy, all I'm going to do is screw him up"

I like the idea of not announcing a season will be your final. Drama queens want all the attention. It's backfiring on David Ortiz; he's having a great season. Nobody quits at the top; barring a collapse post All Star break, I can see him changing his mind. Just like all those rock bands who did their "final tour" 20-25 years ago.....and still are touring.

Duncan was a fabulous player. I've seen a lot of Kobe vs Duncan debate and I'm firmly on the Duncan side. He picked the right time to go and he did it his way. He was a true credit to the game.

SA had it easy once they got Tim Duncan . Surround him most any type of player ,change those players constantly and he plays great . From day to day and year to year you always know he will be there. Very little drama ,no "this is my team" crap . I don't remember a time when he wasn't ready to defer to other players when needed. What a guy to have if you are in the front office .Being able to bring in almost anyone and not have to worry about you're biggest star sharing the ball. Tim Duncan never had to tell anybody he was the alpha dog.
