Context: Agree that there are times when there are "favors" done on the track.

My question, what % of the races do you feel involve "questionable behaviors?"

My handle at AQU was pathetic. Couldn't get myself to bet that much as I was tired of trying to figure out which races would get "toyed" with.

Love it.

Belmont is ready for the killing. Lots of angles I messed up, and, yeah.. just being stupid. I'm not having my best meet there, but getting scraps here and there.

I'm getting ready for Saratoga. You keep killing Belmont. Hopefully we meet up somewhere with some $30+ winners.

Loser at Aqu = Race Fixin Cheaters
Winning at Bel = Everybody on the up and up
I'd say you're the 6-warm beer OTB guy but you've made it very clear how you are actually a hardcore real horseplayer. The kind that hangs on the rail and tells the jockeys to their face what a bunch of crooks they are. Kudos, really.

The replay you've suggested to watch is a seven horse maiden sprint on a fast track that favored the inside. The inside horse went to the lead and won. All I got out of it was that I watch replays differently than you do.

Your true video skills, even more so than the incredible ability to mind-read jockey intentions through race replays, may be your ability to embed video in your PA post, so you got that goin for ya.

Favors-Screw jobs-Collusion-Chosen winner-Let's make it look good drives-Not trying to win
Allow me to be the a******. I call BS. It all reads like SOUR GRAPES.
Certainly funny and entertainingly descriptive reading, no doubt, but it's sour grapes all the same.

Your zest and passion for our sport is plenty evident. The constant and
seemingly paranoia driven incessant complaining about perceived shenanigans is incredible.
I refuse to take your accusations seriously. It's just too much, all the time.

Sounds like someone has some envy ....sad.

When you're yearly HANDLE reaches my yearly WITHHOLDING, then we'll talk.

For now , I suggest you accelerate your education of this game because if you don't post, people might think your dense but since you started posting, I'm realizing your horseplayer IQ is not that high.

I think it would be instructional for every horseplayer to own a few horses for awhile. Suddenly, that aggressive ride you thought gave you your best chance of winning a bet doesn't look so smart when a bunch of them finish up the track instead of picking up checks with less aggressive rides that paid the bills.

Great point Class. Especially with NY Breds.

Believe me, I've factored that into my thought process. Get a 2nd before we break our maiden. Let's suck up 5 2nds or 3rds before we leave the SN1X condition etc.

And then own a whole bunch more until you realize that every day could be the last day you have a sound racehorses so you best make hay while you can.

Yeah, owners are pretty much in the game to get minor checks. They love to take Loser's Circle photos with their friends. You really nailed this one....as usual.

Jockeys get paid 1% of the total purse (5% of 20% share) for finishing second instead of 6% of the total purse (10% of 60% share) for winning. There's no way that the jocks will happily settle for trying to get second or third money instead of winning.

I've known a couple of owners who did this with state breds. Having a horse with limited talent can certainly earn more money "easing" through their conditions over 10-15 races when running for the artificially inflated purses. The problem is the horse has to remain sound, and you take the chance of teaching it to never win....

But back to your original point. I would agree that nepotism within the horse racing industry is a problem. The game needs to improve its image, and just the appearance of a conflict of interest/collusion is hurting the handle. We know it's an insider's game, but as horseplayers we don't need our noses rubbed in it.

But like every other aspect to improving racing, the climb for improvement seems to be up a very steep hill.
