Santa Anita (Fall) **TRACKPHANTOM**

SANTA ANITA 9-26-14

RACE 2 CLAIMING 16,000 - 6F - DIR
T
3 PEACENIK 4-1 Smith Spawr
5 JOVITA’S TUFFY 8-1 Orozco Sierra
4 SENATOR BOB 5-2 Arias Sierra
1 SACRED OVATION 7-2 Baze Sherman

#3 PEACENIK
There is a loaded amount of “need-the-lead” type of speed in here so it should benefit a runner that can rate just behind, like this one. He was looking really strong here before shipping out in June. Subpar synthetic but superb dirt record. Pace fits if 7 YO isn’t moving in wrong direction.

#5 JOVITA’S TUFFY

Won in last start here but both at Del Mar were poor. Was right behind the top choice in last and is making the same class drop. Trainer has 2 in here, the other will be sent. Expect him to be running on in the lane.

SANTA ANITA 9-27-14 RACE 6

FRONT RUNNER (G1) 300,000 - 1M 1/16 - DIRT
4 DADDY D T 6-1
7 AMERICAN PHARO 8-5
10 CALCULATOR 8-1
2 LORD NELSON 8-1

#4 DADDY D T
Same female tree that produced ’98 Jockey Gold Cup winner, Wagon Limit. 250k purchase in ’13 beat winners in the small stakes at DMR on the turf last out. C Nak was up and also up on the fast works but stays with another. Think he’ll like dirt.

#7 AMERICAN PHAROAH
Word was out in the DMR Fut as the works were very good leading in. He ran them off their feet in a superb effort. Was on a rail that favored speed that day. Stretches out. Works are still very good.

SANTA ANITA 9-28-14 RACE 4

MSW 56k – 1M - TURF
8 MR. EXCAVATOR 7-2
5 SWEET SHOP 12-1
4 SILVER TORCH 5-2
12 MONSIEUR POWER 6-1

#8 MR. EXCAVATOR
Comes from female family tree which produced 7 stakes types including a few that excelled on the grass. This female line produced Texas Ryano, a stakes type for these connections. He never really got comfortable between horses in debut. He showed some life late. Nice works since. Victor stays up.

#5 SWEET SHOP
Didn’t take any action in the debut in the common race won by CD shipper Wasted Gardens. He passed some to split the field. Bred to love the grass. Bonde is 22% with 2nd time starters.

10-2-14 (FULL CARD FREE TODAY - LINK IN SIGNATURE)

RACE 6 MDN CLM 50,000 - 6F - DIRT
1) #4 Intaxication 7-2
2) #8 Constantine 4-1
3) #9 Curlin Iron 8-1
4) #5 Athens 6-1

1) #4 INTAXICATION
While Miller is 20% overall with 1st timers, he is 30% with debut maiden claimers. He is 4 for 13 (31%) with 3YO+ debut runners on dirt at SA and one of those wins was a runner in May ridden by Pereira. Works are pretty decent. 77k purchase well-spotted.

2) #8 CONSTANTINE

Baffert is 1 for 2 with a close 2nd in the last two times he has gone MSW to MC for this owner. Both of those were at mc50k+. They gave this one quite a few chances before finally dropping him. Nice work tab for this.

RACE 1 MDN CLM 50,000 – 6F - DIRT
1) #6 REALLY A PRINCESS 4-1
2) #1 WATDIFRENZDZITMK 6-1
3) #9 TRIBAL EXPRESS 6-1
4) #7 SAINT MAMIE 10-1

1) #6 REALLY A PRINCESS
Showed speed in all four MSW races and now takes the needed drop to maiden claiming. Runner-up in last came back to win a MSW at SA. 2nd time blinkers can often be a positive angle. This rider is going to turn some heads and is at his best with speed types. Rider up in the recent work.

2) #1 WATDIFRENZDZITMAKE

Was marooned out in the 10 post at DMR in the debut and didn’t take a lick of betting. However, that was a pretty strong field. The winner came back to run 3rd in an opt claimer 50k next out. Trainer good MSW to MC.

RACE 8 SURFER GIRL 100K 1M - TURF
1) #5 HER EMMYNENCY 5-2 Talamo
2) #11 BOBBI GRACE 6-1 Van Dyke
3) #13 FOOLISH WAYS 10-1 Nakatani
4) #12 ACHIEVER’S LEGACY 10-1 Trujillo

1) #5 HER EMMYNENCY
She took action in a sold MSW field at DMR for Stidham who is a Midwestern trainer. She always traveled well and won well. Connections were encouraged enough to try the G1 Del Mar Debutante and she just missed. Filly that ran 3rd came back to run 2nd in another G1. She outworked graded stakes winner, Istanford, Talamo up in last move.

10-9-14 (Free today at link in signature)

R1 MSW 56,000 (2YO) – 1M DIRT
1) #3 APPEALING LADY 6-5 Bejarano
2) #5 MOONIE 9-2 Gutierrez
3) #1 ARTEMISIA 3-1 Talamo
4) #2 TAKE BACK SPRING 4-1 Trujillo

1) #3 APPEALING LADY
Filly by Cindago, trained by Sadler who won at a mile with a 100 Beyer. Favored in both of her starts. Off a bit slow in last but closed well to finish second behind a comeback winner (won opt clm at 8-1 at SA, 69 Beyer). Perfectly spaced worktab here at Santa Anita.

2) #5 MOONIE
Gets stamina from the female pedigree with Irish River influence. She was 9-2 in debut, off slowly and made a mid-race move before tiring. Freeman took the blinks off in last and she was a bit sharper on the dirt at LRC. Winner was a 1ster for Baffert/Kaleem Shah off at 2-1.

R1 CLM 25k – 1M 1/16 DIRT

1) #6 HURRICANE LAKE 8-5
2) #4 CARLOT COWBOY 5-2
3) #5 PERFECT SET 7-2
4) #1 DR ACTION 12-1

1) #6 HURRICANE LAKE
Re-claim by Bonde who had him 2x before. This is a game gelding who has earned 327k and been in the money in 30 of his 47 career starts for many different trainers. He has been wide in his most recent starts at DMR. Bejarano stays aboard.

2) #4 CARLOT COWBOY
Been popular in the claim box. He has clearly done his best running on the dirt (all 5 wins). Ran a big race two back when 2nd in front of Shun, returned to beat top choice. Forwardly placed with Baze on top.

RACE 1 CLAIMING 10,000 – 5.5F DIRT

1) #7 NEWFOUND GOLD 3-1 Baze
2) #4 XUANG FENG 2-1 Maldonado
3) #5 TRAWEEK 8-1 Puglisi
4) #2 ZIP CAT 5-2 Talamo

1) #7 NEWFOUND GOLD

Dynamics of this race are much different than last out for this one. He was in chase mode behind Xuang Feng, an easy early leader. Had to move early. Miller has two in here and will likely make it hard on Feng. Good record here. He gets a great trip.

2) #4 XUANG FENG
Breaks like a QH (broke first in 7 of last 12 starts). Didn’t get any pressure in last. Will be pressed here. Drop in class but purse is the same as last. Winner of last has won 4 straight.

RACE 3 MSW 56,000 – 1M 1/16 DIRT

1) #10 J SERINO 8-1 Van Dyke
2) #2 NOWALKING 4-1 Smith
3) #8 POWER CRAZED 4-1 Garcia
4) #9 BEACH FEVER 6-1 Perez

1) #10 J SERINO
Expensive purchase was gelded since his last race. Clearly has talent as he was 2nd in a key race three back. The winner was in the G1 JCGC and might run in the BC Classic. 4th won the G1 DMR Dby, turf. Back to rider who was up for best efforts.

2) #2 NOWALKING
Homebred was 3rd while setting the pace in last. Runner-up came back to win a turf MSW (73 Beyer). Very positive clocker comments on recent works. Bred for distance. Smith stays.

R6 CLAIMING 20,000 – 6.5F DIRT

#8 NOTHING TO HIDE 7-2 Bejarano
#4 MOSCATO GIRL6-1 Espinoza
#5 BETTY BING BING 3-1 Van Dyke
#2 SHE’S FLUSH 8-1 Pereira

1) #8 NOTHING TO HIDE
Baltas has won 2 of his last 5 first time out of a claim. One of those wins was at LRC when he claimed from Peter Miller (like this one). She is 2 for 2 on dirt. Runner-up in last was 3rd for starter allw and then 2nd by a nose at 16k claiming N3L in next two outs. Seeing Bejarano take the mount adds to the appeal.

2) #4 MOSCATO GIRL
3 year old filly is a check casher and has been in the money in 7 of 8 on the dirt. She has been working for quite a while for Sadler and the reviews in the mornings have been mixed for her. Espinoza was aboard for her only win, a wire to wire effort here in March. Maybe.

RACE 6 MSW 56,000 – 1M TURF

1) #4 EDUCATING 7-2 Van Dyke
2) #5 MIZ GRAYCEE 10-1 Pedroza
3) #3 VOW ME OVER 3-1 Bejarano
4) #1 BACKSTREET LISA 8-1 Maldonado

1) #4 EDUCATING
Lots to like here. First off, the dam has produced many turf stakes winners and all have been long distance runners. The trainer does good work with 2nd time starters, especially on the grass. Working well (outworking outside runner, Myself).

2) #5 MIZ GRAYCEE
Didn’t take any money in the debut but the trainer is not really a first time out trainer. Breeding suggests the move to the turf will be fine. 2 works since. 22% rider for Hofmans is up.

RACE 1 MSW 56,000 – 1M TURF
1) #5 BILGER’S SAPPHIRE 7-2 Baze
2) #8 SUSAN B GOOD 5-2 Van Dyke
3) #1 CEE’S TIZZY BELLE 4-1 Smith
4) #6 THREE BLONDES 2-1 Bejarano

1) #5 BILGER’S SAPPHIRE

Three-year old filly makes her first route start here. She has only been on the turf once and that was in the debut. The trainer has zero first time winners, so we can look past the poor effort. She showed nice late kick in last three starts. Runner-up in last came back to win by nearly 10 lengths. Love the spacing of the drills.

2) #8 SUSAN B GOOD
Solid turf breeding and she has run well on the grass. She traded punches with a few of these in here. She went to the lead in last but that was only because she drew the rail. Will try and rate.

SANTA ANITA 10-24-14

R1- STARTER ALLW 30,000 – 6F DIRT
#3 MORE STORMYWTHR 7-2 Van Dyke Glatt
#5 WARREN’S CRACKER 4-1 Bejarano Gutierrez
#2 FAITH HOPE LOVE 8-5 Espinoza Sadler
#1 PATRIOTIC BROTHER 4-1 Pedroza Bianocone

#3 MORE STORMYWEATHER
It looks like her best efforts came on the dirt. She broke her maiden here and was second at this level four back. She was claimed for 32k two back and ran last off the claim. She has a few of nice moves here but am concerned with the spacing.

#5 WARREN’S CRACKER
Big closer only on the dirt once and that came here in Jan ’13 in a maiden claimer when she closed quickly for 4th. Trainer is 18 for 76 (23%) on the move to Bejarano. Nice worktab.

R8 - MSW 56k – 6F DIRT
#6 SIGNATURE CAT 9-5
#4 ALL AROUND BROWN 15-1
#7 HOT LIGHTNING 10-1
#9 SWISS SILVER 12-1

#6 SIGNATURE CAT
Pretty formidable Cal-bred after running 2nd to a runner who came back to win a G2 for Pletcher and in front of a runner who won by 10 in MSW next out in NY. Clearly has blazing speed. He is a first time gelding. Love the “win-early’’ blood.

#4 ALL AROUND BROWN
Took some money in the debut in the 13 horse field. He broke pretty slow and was in catch-up mode throughout. He did come on to miss second by only 3 lengths as the winner ran off. Two solid moves since for a trainer that does well w/ 2YO.
