Charles Barkley

TNT may have to send Barkley to sensitivity training after saying whipping children is OK with most black folks in the south where he grew up.........

When your name is Barkley and you're black, you can say about anything you want about anything.
I don't think color has anything to do with the issue. I got whipped and so did about everyone I knew growing up in the south. I'm not even sure it's a north and south issue.

He's been known to place a bet once in a while.

I'm not an advocate of the severe damage causing beatings, but if you find a 100 kids who's parents "whipped their hide" and 100 kids who's parents didn't give a crap about them, it would be interesting to see which kids are more well adjusted.

Yeah.
At least, comparing the ones who can still walk.

I'll never say a bad word about Barkley, though.
He's up here every July playing in the celebrity golf tourney.
Horrible golfer. Humorous, and generous, man.

In 2007, he donated close to $200K to local fire victims.

Its a fine line.

I think the fine line is injury vs pain. If you whip their hide and their rear end stings and its all red, that's one thing...if you injure them with cuts on the skin and potentially breaking bones, that's over the line, this guy is an incredibly powerful football player, his smacks hurt much harder than smacks from regular people.....that has to be a factor.

If you look at a map of states that still allow corporal punishment it's pretty much south of the Mason Dixon.

We used to get paddled in school. Some teachers would drill holes so it would leave welts. Today, if a teacher did that to my child I would go postal. Times have changed.

The holes are to cut down weight and air resistance so you can get more velocity in your swing.

You sound like my 8th grade shop teacher. A class project was to make paddles which he would then use on us. He was a sick f**k but so were we. One reason why all the boys took shop was to see the safety film were a board kicked back and went through some kid's stomach. It was the 60's in rural Oklahoma.

We didn't have shop, so teachers had to provide their own "Board of Education".

There is a middle-ground - talking to the child. Whipping and spanking do not stop aberrant behavior.

alot of the attitudes about this are similar to hazing in fraternities or sports team. Hey it was done to us and we turned out ok, so you have to have it done as well.

I can't imagine anyone doing that to a 4 year old. It just doesn't compute for me.

Whipping children is still ok with most White folks in the farming area where I grew up. That doesn't mean they are corrected.
I will say this, spanking is one thing and beating a child to point where he has to go the ER is another. The two should not be confused.
