Sorry, but I didn't think Robert was up to this. I've been in IT for decades and yes I always take more than one type of backup before attempting recovery. No need to highlight this to me.

the cloud stuff is very easy to deal with and useful

after you create a free Google Account you can easily upload any file to Google Docs and/or Google Drive which is available to you after creating an account

you can upload your pics to Google Photo and organize them and create albums if you want - all of this is free


I have a 7 year old desktop running Windows 8.1

I store nothing on it - everything is in the cloud

you can access it from the library or your phone or tablet or laptop

when you do get your computer back in good shape you might want to uninstall all the apps that you never use

all of that crap was put on there probably due to some kind of payola scheme

they run in the background and when you remove them your computer should run better

in Windows 8.1 you just go to the app screen - touch and hold on the app and then an option is offered to uninstall

not sure about Windows 10 - but it's probably the same
