what a flashback in life Hagler was to me, i could post plenty of personal stories about that man even though i only met him once. very sad, his lawyer, who was my friend Steve Wainwright as well, passed away 2 years ago and now this tough sun of a gun is no longer with us..
sorry to hear a man with all that heart is no longer with us.

A real brawler.
The Hearns and Antoufermo fights were legendary.
I still think he won vs Sugar Ray Leonard.
RIP to a true champ!

Appreciation
The Hagler vs Mugabi fight was the most vicious fight I ever watched. Watched it with Derek Sanderson and Hawk from Spenser for Hire in a luxury box at the garden. His early win vs Sugar Ray Seales was an action filled slug fest at the tv station near govt center at Scolley Square. That’s when everyone in Boston knew just how special he was and would be. Godspeed, Champ.

I think that Mugabi fight was a turning point for Marvin in his career. He may have just wanted to pack it in after that with just one more big fight with Leonard. Hagler hurt his back in training for Mugabi and one of his sparring partners broke his nose. That Mugabi was one hard puncher and after the fight both fighters were hospitalized and both were pissing blood pretty bad.
Hagler was a fine champion and he was the number one contender for three years and could not get a title shot. No champion wanted a piece of him until Antuofermo defended his title against him. Hagler fought everyone. He fought a lot of good fighters on the road risking those hometown decisions. Hagler went to Philly and fought all those top rated Philadelphia middleweights of that era.
A fine fighter and champion. RIP Marvelous Marvin.

Very cool JR!! I retired from my employment with the USDOJ up in the Great White Mountains region of New Hampshire (Berlin) about 2 years ago. I was very close to the Bartlett (North Conway area) from where Mr. Hagler stayed. I never met him, however, I had friends that did saying they would see him at a local bar in Conway, NH and they always mentioned that he was extremely pleasant. Total Class Act and one of the finest fighters that ever lived IMO.. The man was a virtual specimen (built like a triangle). R.I.P. Marvelous Marvin Hagler.

He was having dinner in the turf club one table over from my wife and I. Beautiful woman with him. He was talking to two actors at the table on the other side of us. One was the little guy “Mickey” from Seinfeld. He apologized for talking across us and introduced himself. My wife told him that she serves Sugar Ray breakfast in her restaurant a few times a month. He laughed and told her to “say hello for me” we all laughed.
Btw, Greg Wolfe from TVG set us up with those tickets to the turf club. It was a great night.

Sugar Ray flashed for the last 30 seconds of most rounds while doing almost nothing in the other 2:30. Hagler won that fight.
