I'm 61 and in generally pretty good health.

I've over the age where the stats start to rise slightly, but the really bad stats are for people pushing 80 with chronic serious health issues. Last I saw, there weren't any fatalities among children.

I would guess we are a mixed group of people that are both younger and older than me and in better or worse health. We probably have a few pushing closer to the age where the risks start really rising or who have health conditions that are more serious. For those, it's advisable to double your efforts to avoid exposure.

Here's the data by age, sex, prior health (but again, we aren't sure we have the denominator right. The death rates could actually be much lower).

https://www.worldometers.info/corona...-demographics/

Lots of other good data here also.

I personally know many "relatively young and generally healthy people" who have canceled trips to Europe due to this virus outbreak...so, my guess is that the general sentiment out there isn't as optimistic as you are presenting it. I am 58 years old and in good health...but I'm not travelling far in the near future. Would YOU?

I'm from the Nassim Taleb school of thinking on this.

I suspect we are going to have a better outcome than than the general fears out there right now, but there is no downside to be being very cautious because every once in awhile a black swan does show up.

See how diplomatically you phrased that? Why can't our "Moron-In-Chief" speak likewise...instead of repeatedly putting his foot in his mouth whenever he addresses this virus? Is he worried more about the stock market?

Is one extreme really better then the other?

I think they are equally moronic and dangerous.

And I'm pretty sure the Trump administration isn't treating this as an absolute nothing, despite how his tweets (which I'm sure aren't even HIM) are trashed for maximum effect.

Do you count Class as being extreme? I don't.

What's extreme is causing worldwide panic...causing a run on masks? lol

Media outlets publishing pix of medical teams in HAZMAT suits as if they are dealing with EBOLA? Come on man...seriously?

That kind of extreme.

Governments locking down whole swaths of population? Really? Why?

That kind of extreme.

I think he has two responsibilities to balance

1. Get informed and then inform the public

2. Prevent undue panic (financial, economic, and other)

I have only one responsibility. I tell you what I think.

He could probably do a better job of being informed and communicating that information.

People weren't even running around this nuts at the height of the HIV/AIDS scare back in the 80s-90s.

And that virus had a much greater chance of ****ing up your entire life, even if it didn't kill you, which back then, it was almost certain to do....

What aren't they telling us about this virus? Or why are they trying to scare us so much if indeed my opinions are correct?

According to the fearmongers, it doesn't really matter where I go. I'm ****ed. So what does it matter?

AIDS required sexual contact. That meant that us old guys were in the clear.
