Could not have been said better or shorter. Why should ANYONE get a pass? One race against the boys BEFORE the derby should be mandatory anyway if they want any credibility with the new system. This is what cracks me up with the "numbers" and "sheet" people. Many of them don't understand class or the divisions..this is where i step in and hammer certain horses on the big days with an advantage...i don't think they understand sports in general besides racing. I used to coach baseball and softball....there were like one or two girls on each team that would even have a chance against the boys. They are there but its a rare deal. Someone will come along with a filly that they feel belongs....and they'll run her in a big prep to get in.......this is the first year, but i know it will happen when someone feels confident enough to take that chance. People come on here typing away or on TV basically tooting someone elses horn or making decisions for them. These people are professional trainers, just like a coach they have the horses best interest in mind....their job is to evaluate talent and risk. Thats how they place a horse to enter a race...the only ones you hear bitching are people that think they speak for these people, which of coarse, they don't. When someone thinks they want their filly in the derby...they'll go for it...if your good it only takes one good race in the last round. The armchair QB's are hilarious, if there was a rule that fillies could not run in the preps....i would see your point...but you are speaking for trainers that know what they are doing and i don't hear them bitching about it.(they clearly don't want to be in the derby to begin with...its a joke!) Its going to happen with the right horse and the right connections with a pair...these bozos make it sound like fillies are DQ'ed from the derby...its a free country...someone will take that shot....eventually.

I was wrong regarding filly's not needing points to run in the oaks, but I still think they should earn their way into the derby.....just my opinon but I dont think Julie would want any part of Orb or Varrenzano at 11/4 ......I seen all 3 of them up close at Gulfstream ....

I would bet Dreaming of Julia all day and I love Orb.He would be backseat material.I don't think she'll bounce off that big effort either.Just raw improvement. Not over the top.

I think the point system doesn't affect fillies as much as it does out of place sprinters like Trinniberg compromising the pace of the race.

That's what's best for her? She wouldn't be one of the top choices for the Oaks much less the Derby.

McPeek has already stated why she is running in this race. She has raced only once since last year and he wanted to get a race into her before she runs in the Oaks, while not coming into the Oaks on 6 weeks rest. Even if she were to win the race, she wouldn't make it into the derby based on points.
