They Again? Del MarDD 8/18

Just got home from work, not playing but see a $16.80 won the first, fifth choice out of seven and the 7 won the second at $12 and change defeating a D'amato even money, 9 horse field. Double pays $59.00.

Seems more than a little light.

It's funny you bring this daily double up here. I saw this, too.

I had the #7 MORGAN S. on top in race 2. I was constructing a pick 5 and did not initially have the winner of race 1 anywhere (#7).

I was noticing the daily double payoffs and every single combo had the #9 as the favored winner of the 2nd leg (race 2) by a large margin EXCEPT the 7/7 double. That was, for a long time, close in proximity to the 7/9 version. In addition, every other combination had the #2 as the 2nd favorite in the double (winning leg 2) except the 7/7 combo which was 2nd favored.

I added the 7 in race 1 because of this (didn't hit the pick 5 as I missed leg 4).

I find it odd that whoever hammered this double combo got it so right. There were two separate outfits in play. I can see knowing the first timer was live in leg 2, but how does one know that information AND know the 7 is live in race 1 (and vice versa).

Either way, it's this kind of smart money (or inside money, or whatever you want to call it) that makes the game less and less appealing. "They" are not wrong often enough.

The good news is, they are wrong a lot more often than you think, but most focus on things that win, and ignore the losers.

Sure they KNOW, but they get it wrong plenty.
