DEL MAR 8/19/17

11 MSW 60K, 6F DIRT

1 MEET AND GREET 7-2
8 LAYNEE 3-1
3 HOPE SHE WILL 4-1
7 UNUSUALLY STYLISH 20-1

PICK: 1 MEET AND GREET (7-2)
Precocity in female family. Dam half to 2 graded 2YO stakes winners (Salute the Sarge). D’Amato not great with 1st timers in MSW here (4 for 31 sprinting on dirt). Check the tote. All 4 of his 1st timer wins were 8-5 or less. Looks live.

VALUE: 7 UNUSUALLY STYLISH (20-1)
Likely to see her on the turf soon as all of her sibs were big turf runners. First start was a pop and stop effort. She’s eligible to improve 2nd out. Trainer is a 26% winner this year. Add to exotics.

A) 1 B) 3,8 C) 2,4,5,6,7

3 MDN CLM 40K, 6.5F DIRT

9 HAWKS PEAK 6-1
6 READY AIM 5-2
2 CHARMING MORTY 3-1
1 ARTISTIC AB 10-1

PICK: 9 HAWKS PEAK (6-1)
Took money in debut but did very little running in a race that is pretty strong. 4th, Vending Machine, won in stakes in subsequent starts. Glatt 4 wins and 1 place 6 starts with 6 months+ maiden claimers between 30-50k. Sharp drills.

VALUE: 1 ARTISTIC AB (10-1)
He’s nibbled with better and fired best career effort in last with the class drop and addition of blinkers. Off slow in 1st start and was wide throughout in last. He’ll save ground from the inside post.

A) 2,6,9 B) 1,7,8 C) 4,5

1 OPT CLM 35K, 1M DIRT

4 BRIDAL ARCH 2-1
1 STARR OF QUALITY 3-1
2 ROAD TEST 4-1
5 ONLINE REQUEST 7-2

PICK: 4 BRIDAL ARCH (2-1)
Win was legit. The final time was much faster than two other miles races on the same day and equal to that of opt clm in a later race. 4th beaten 15 came back to run 2nd at 7-1 at mdn clm 20k. 2nd was a 5-2 favorite dropping out of md clm 75k.

VALUE: 1 STARR OF QUALITY (3-1)
Winner of three of her last four, all at the mile distance and the loss for Miller was a decent 4th in a 200k stakes 2 back. She projects a decent ground saving rail trip in here. Solid drills coming in from SLR.

A) 4 B) 1,2 C) 3,5,6

1 CLM 16K, 5.5F DIRT

1 SLY HUMOR 2-1
3 GLORIOUS VENEZUELA 4-1
5 YOU’RE THE REASON 8-1
2 IRISH DAME 5-2

PICK: 1 SLY HUMOR (2-1)
She has broken first from the gate 4 of 6 times for Hollendorfer. Combine that w/ the rail and addition of an excellent gate rider in Roman and think she’ll open up in here. Winner of the race she is out of ran a good 4th in a 100k stakes last week.

VALUE: 5 YOU’RE THE REASON (8-1)
She looks to be the late runner signed on here. She bobbled at the start two back and was in traffic in last. It feels like the pace might give in chasing the top pick and allow this one to get a minor award.

A) 1 B) 2,3,5 C) 4,6

Race 3 Optional Claiming 40K, 5F Turf

1 SHEZA CHATTYKAT 7-2
7 MOON KITTY 10-1
4 LATE ‘N LEFT 6-1
9 MERRILY MERRILY 9-2

PICK: 1 SHEZA CHATTYKAT (7-2)
Draws the rail but has speed to hold the inside here. Female tree produced 1986 G1 Blue Grass winner, Bachelor Beau. Not much turf in the family so it will be a guess whether he takes to this surface. Been working strong. Back to Bejarano.

VALUE: 7 MOON KITTY (10-1)
Added blinkers back for the most recent start and combined with the drop, it was good enough for her first win. 2nd, 3rd, 5th all came back to win from the race two back. Much turf in this female pedigree.

A) 1,7 B) 2,3,4,9 C) 5,8

3 OPT CLM 40K, 5F TURF

5 VALLESTINA 4-1
8 NOT TOO SHINY 7-2
6 ANGEL ALLIE 9-2
1 LITTLE BIT LOVELY 5-1

PICK: 5 VALLESTINA (4-1)
Won in hand in debut. The debut trainer is awful with debut starters in mdn clm so you have to think this filly did it all by herself. Private purchased and ran huge first local start, dueling, putting the field away. Her sire won 9 of 11, 1.6M on turf.

VALUE: 1 LITTLE BIT LOVELY (5-1)
Has some speed and draws the rail. She will likely be sent early. Maldonado was up once before and he went hard to the lead on her finishing 2nd as the favorite. Only a few in here will go hard. Fits here.

A) 5,8 B) 1,6 C) 2,3

DEL MAR 9/1/17

1 MDN CLM 32K, 1M 1/16 DIRT

3 BIG DAY TOMORROW 6-1
8 HARD ARCH 9-2
9 THE UNION FOREVER 12-1
5 ROOSEVELT 5-2

PICK: 3 BIG DAY TOMORROW (6-1)
Ran 9th in the common race two back in which 3 others in here ran right in front of him. Trainer Ellis added the blinkers last out and he improved dramatically to run 2nd at 8-1. He was 4 wide and pulling there. Good post draw. Improving type.

VALUE: 8 HARD ARCH (9-2)
Has some efforts that would put him in the win mix here. Ran 2nd three back and earned a best 75 Beyer. That was at this same distance. Wide post and got away poorly 2 back. One of many that can win.

A) 3,8,9 B) 1,5,10 C) 2,6,7

RACE 4 ALLW 62K, 6.5F DIRT

1 GIGANTIS 3-1
8 COILS GOLD 4-1
6 MORGAN S. 5-2
2 PRIVATE MARINI 4-1

PICK: 1 GIGANTIS (3-1)
Comes back after a serious layoff a totally different runner. Love the work spacing. Clocker high on him. Stalks, saves ground.

VALUE: 8 COILS GOLD (4-1)

A) 1,6,8 B) 2 C) 3,5

5 LOS BORRACHOS 2-1
1 KAFISTER 3-1
7 BEST TWO MINUTES 5-1
4 LOGAN’S MOON 7-2

PICK: 5 LOS BORRACHOS (2-1)
Miller is 5 for 6 first off the claim for these owners starting back at Del Mar and off at 3-1 or less (other one finished 2nd by neck).

VALUE: 7 BEST TWO MINUTES (5-1)

A) 5 B) 1,4,7 C) 2,3,6

RACE 2 CLM 16K, 1M DIRT

2 FREDDIES DREAM 2-1
5 JENSEN 8-1
3 OH NEWMAN 4-1
6 ACCELERANT 8-1

PICK: 2 FREDDIES DREAM (2-1)
Took him off Miller and looks for quick return on class drop. He beat better in last 2. Wins if he keeps his form for new outfit.

VALUE: 5 JENSEN (8-1)

A) 2,5 B) 3,6 C) 1,7
