The Maple Leafs continued to reshape their roster Sunday, trading forward Shawn Matthias to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft, as well as forward Colin Smith. The transaction sends a valued and well-liked veteran out of Toronto, but gives the Leafs another pick in an already-impressive amount of draft opportunities and adds an experienced pro to the Marlies as the franchise’s AHL team gears up in hope of a deep post-season run.

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that the team has acquired the San Jose Sharks’ second-round selections from the 2017 and 2018 Entry Drafts as well as forward Raffi Torres in exchange for defenceman Roman Polak and forward Nick Spaling.

Some teams just have no clue how to construct a winning team. Why are the Leafs always bad? When's the last time they won a playoff series?

They are now doing it the right way, building through the draft and unloading plumbers that can be easily replaced for draft picks, look at most Stanley Cup winning teams over the last 20 years, the core of those teams are homegrown. Free agency has not been kind to them.

Why are you guys using a thread from last season when there is a current season thread? My guess is that you guys are just trying to pretend like the Caps aren't the best team in the NHL!

Good question.
It must have something to do with the search function.
There is a 2015-15 thread with the same NHL title.
Somewhere, this old one was brought in and got continued.

They are for now, they have to prove it in the post-season. They never do, maybe this year but they can never seem to beat the Rangers.
