Manhattan Mall throws in the towel
https://www.the-sun.com/news/1088661...-empty-stores/
“ Westfield representatives cited the soaring crime rate in the area and quality of life concerns for workers as the primary reasons for wanting to cut their agreement short.
"The rate of subtenant vacancies is at an all-time high," they said in a legal filing.
"Few businesses want to open and operate a store where their employees and customers regularly would experience theft, property damage, bodily harm, or threats."
KEEP VOTING DEM!

With the advent of on-line shopping, Malls are closing all over the place and it has NOT A THING TO DO WITH LOCATION.

Tough call.
The career arc of downtown malls has always trended in this direction, but the rise in crime and homelessness has steepened the curve.

Between the pandemic where tons of people left big cities like Manhattan to work from home...to soaring crime rates and illegal immigrants sucking up resources like never before...one HAS to think that there is going to be a black swan-type economic event linked to a bunch of big cities going literally bankrupt all at once.
Some people like to think the USA is somehow immune to the economic forces that have taken down many other countries over the centuries...
The Feds won't be able to bail them out because they've given all our money to Ukraine while our national debt has continued to soar out of control.
https://www.usdebtclock.org/
Our debt to GDP ratio has ballooned from about 60% to over 122% in only 24 years (2000-2024).
But the government wants us to prepare for the upcoming Solar Eclipse in case there is an "event"...

And maybe the lack of policing crime in and around stores had some tiny impact?

Irondequoit Mall was a suburban mall just outside of Rochester that opened in 1990. It was the most beautiful mall in the area. It only lasted about 10 years and its demise was not "on-line shopping". It attracted gangs and had a reputation for car jackings in the parking lot. The last time I was there was disturbing, gangs walking shoulder to shoulder through the mall. You didn't dare get in their way.

Midtown Plaza was an ADVENTURE for a jid!
Loved the place, the world clock, the fountain, McCudgy's 4th floor toyland at Christmas, with the huuuuge electric train set up. Jerry Carr with he weather outside on Ch13, literally outdoors giving live weather! He'd get mugged today,

Why do people not read these articles you post?
Must be that misinformation thing...it's insidious don't you think? We should start rounding up people for these thought crimes.

Exactly right! Crime stats are normally lies perpetrated by police executives anyway. The non prosecutions makes it even easier to deceive

MofoJoe had an eclipse of his brain!
And totality never ended.
Crime is UP through the cieling. Anyone eith a brain knows that.
What is down is calling them crimes, Refusal to arrest, prosecute, jail, report a crime.
That Bidenology. Lie to the simpletons, they will believe anything.
Can't feed your family? It's all in your mind.
Can't afford to buy a house? You're not trying.
Got mugged and robbed? You fell down and lost your wallet.
Squatter in your house? That's a newcomer.
Seriously, Joe, you buying that nonsense?
Look at loss from theft in Monroe and Ontario counties NY.
Grow up dude.
