You have to slowly strengthen our foreign policy adversaries by withdrawing and showing the kind of weakness that emboldens them to be aggressive and make gains against us.

Basically, I'd be the Obama administration.

The topic is full of irony. Bush ran in 2000 opposed to nation building. He flip flopped, no doubt with a lot of convincing from Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Wolfowitz.

Obama says he is opposed to nation building, but still thinks that he can impose democracy on the middle east through strength of his negotiating skills. Both were very naive on the subject. They don't want democracy over there.

I said we should build a giant Airbase/Army Marine facility in the middle of Iraq. Control the region from the ground and sky and we should have been pumping cheap oil for the last ten years................but alas.......I didn't get my way

We made 2 mistakes.

1. The bigger mistake was going in to begin with

2. The recent mistake was not negotiating a way to stay longer so we could continue to help secure the place. Once we broke it (Iraq), we had a moral obligation (to the world) to make sure all hell didn't break loose.

We left. Predictably, all hell broke loose. Now we are being forced to get involved again. So exactly what was the purpose of leaving other than Obama keeping a campaign promise and opening to the door to all the factions that were trying to get us out of there to try to gain power and wreak havoc?
