MDN CLM 20K–5F DIRT (12:57 PT)

5 YUR TEASING ME 5-1 Pedroza
1 WARREN’S SALUTE 3-1 Maldonado
2 MIDNIGHT DIME 4-1 Stra
4 BACKSEAT BLONDE 3-1 Jimenez

#5 YUR TEASING ME
Been a late running router and now cuts back to 5F off the long layoff. She is working pretty well for this for a trainer who has a nice record with those off a long break (28%). Faces nothing in here and will see tired foes in the lane. She cruises by them late.

#1 WARREN’S SALUTE
Another who will appreciate what looks like a feisty battle for the early lead between runners who have no staying power. She’s come from far back. Rider upgrade. We’ll see her in final furlong.

MSW 56K–1M TURF (1:00 PT)

1 ARCHITOP 3-1
6 WICKED FINANCE 7-2
2 MR. CARTAGENA 5-2
5 NATIVE RIDE 3-1

#1 ARCHITOP
Love the breeding. Big names in female tree like Kingmambo and 2x BC Turf Mile winner, Miesque. Ran well in the debut as he came on for 3rd right behind barn mate to his outside. He cut in between runners and was game to the finish. Likely a prep for this distance. Screws tightened in here.

#6 WICKED FINANCE
Big closer has hit the board in 7 of 15 and 5 of 10 on the turf. He came flying 2 back for 2nd in front of Native Ride. Went 5 wide in his last start and couldn’t quite make up enough ground late. Only 3rd start since November. Baze stays. Will be right there.

LA PUENTE 75K–1M 1/8 TURF (1:56 PT)

2 PAPACOOLPAPACOOL 9-5 Stevens
1 ANYTIME ANYPLACE 4-1 Desormeaux
6 PRETENTIOUS 15-1 Gonzalez
7 ERNEST SHACKLETON 12-1 Valdez

#2 PAPACOOLPAPACOOL
Back to back wins for new trainer, D’Amato. This trainer is really having a big meet and has been winning with everything. This one was much the best in the Pasadena after chasing a slowish early pace. Bred well for turf. Big rider upgrade to Stevens here.

#1 ANYTIME ANYPLACE
Might have the best speed in the race. He set the pace in last at 13-1 and got away with slow fractions. Pedroza off as he is riding in a stakes elsewhere. Nice drill since last. Might be brave late.

RACE 1 - STR ALLW 40K–6.5F DIRT (12:30 PT)

4 GOLD CHASER 5-2 Prat
2 NEXT RIGHT 2-1 Gonzalez
3 SADDLE SOAR 12-1 Stra
6 MARKET NOTES 8-1 Baze

#4 GOLD CHASER
Cut back to a sprint from the mile two back and his early gas was dulled and found himself so far back. He closed very fast but just missed in a good effort. Won a key maiden race as 4 next out winners emerged from it. Extra half furlong helps.

#2 NEXT RIGHT
Showed excellent early speed on the drop last out and never stopped running. He ran up the score vs overmatched foes. Might see serious pressure up front today but is main threat.

MDN CLM 50K–1M DIRT (1:00 PT)

4 BENTLEY’S GONE 8-5
2 DOYOUKNOWSOMETHING 4-1
3 MY OLE BUD 6-5
5 INNER CITY 8-1

#4 BENTLEY’S GONE
Caught a tough field in the debut at LRC in Dec. There were 3 next out winners from that race. Blinkers came off in next start and he hung in well vs better. Best effort in last when adding Baze and moving out to this distance. Baze has been smoking hot of late. Working well. Must use here.

#2 DOYOUKNOWSOMETHING
Only a 3,000 purchase in 2013 so the fact that the connections have protected him so far is a good sign. Was 7th beaten 12 in the race two back but that was a decent effort considering the winner came back to win the Illinois Derby. Blinkers on, speed.

RACE 9 - MSW 56K–6.5F DIRT (4:41 PT)

2 AWESOME LUCK 12-1 Perez
1 ROCKIN DORITA 4-1 Desormeaux
3 OLYMPIC LADY 5-2 Trujillo
5 JEAN EDWARD 5-1 Pedroza

#2 AWSOME LUCK
Had the rail in the debut but broke last and had to ride the rail all the way. She chased the 4-5 winner who went wire to wire. Like it that she was game at the top of the lane and just tired slightly late. Half to 600k earner. Worked strongly since the debut effort.

#1 ROCKIN DORITA
Never easy for a first timer to win from the rail but this one has been working smartly in the AM. Apparently, she’s been flashing big speed. Desormeaux had options but chooses this debut filly.

RACE 7 - WILSHIRE-G3 100K–1M TURF (3:43)

4 BLINGISMYTHING 9-2
7 INDECISE 9-2
6 SKY TREASURE 6-1
8 BIRDLOVER 5-2

#4 BLINGISMYTHING
Really has never run a poor race for these connections. She has won sprinting down the hill and also going a long route. Loved the way she finished in the G3 last time out. Notice Baze was aboard for her 1st win in her debut and that was at this 1M distance. Will move forward out of last.

#7 INDECISE
Pace of this race really suits her stalking style. She actually won two of her three starts at this distance but was DQ’d out of one of those. Prat got up in last and she gave the outside filly all she could handle at 12-1. Solid drills in prep for this. Use.

SANTA ANITA RACE 4
MSW 56K–1M 1/16 DIRT (2:30)

4 SMART TRANSITION 6-5
3 AIR POCKET 8-1
5 ROSICKY 9-5
1 SIMPLICITYIZGENIUS 6-1

#4 SMART TRANSITION
He ran well in both of his starts but both times he found himself steadied or slowed in traffic on the rail. Winner in debut ran 2nd to Cyrus Alexander in opt clm recently. Last winner won IL-Dby for Baffert. Both clocker reports are very high on the works since last. Dam won G2 and 500k, routing.

#3 AIR POCKET
Stumbled badly from the rail at the start of his most recent race. Was 6 behind the top choice in the Whiskey Ticket MSW two back. 200k purchase in 2013 has stepped it up in the drills since last. Moves to an aggressive rider in Pedroza. Better today.

MDN CLM 20K–6.5F DIRT (4:30 PT) - RACE 9

4 HIT A HOMERUN 5-2 Perez
2 SECURE DIVDEND 3-1 Baze
5 ARTIC WARRIOR 8-1 Pena
8 CONSPIRATOR 12-1 Flores

#4 HIT A HOMERUN
Was our top choice in the debut when off at 9-1. Ran pretty well to hang in for 3rd after going to the lead at the top of the lane. Miyadi having a big season. Moves forward in 2nd start.

#2 SECURE DIVDEND
Dropped to maiden claiming for the first time in last and ran 4th. That effort is looking better since 2nd, 3rd both won at this level coming back (62,74 Beyers). Improves 2nd off layoff.

SANTA ANITA RACE 10
PRCST-G3 100K–1M 1/16 DIRT (4:02 PT)

1 SAMMY MANDEVILLE 6-1
5 CATCH A FLIGHT 5-2
9 MOTOWN MEN 6-1
8 MAGIC MARK 15-1

#1 SAMMY MANDEVILLE
Blinkers went on three back and he has looked very good. He won for fun two back earning a career high 100 Beyer. Too tough in last at OP when in a solid field. O’Neill runners are firing.

#5 CATCH A FLIGHT
Showed major promise coming into the US. He was 3rd in the G1 SA Handicap and note Moreno came back to win the 1.5M CT Classic recently.

RACE 1 - CLM 10K–6.5F DIRT (12:30)

4 J AND S EXPRESS 6-5
1 NOTHING TO HIDE 6-1
3 MONSTRO NESS 5-2
6 NORASTONE 5-2

#4 J AND S EXPRESS
Claimed by a relatively unknown outfit 3 back and she got a win with her in the 1st start off the claim. She ran down the fast pace and got up at 8-1. She again drew the outside post in last, made a middle move and flattened. Big drop in class. She broke on top in last two. Should be rolling.

#1 NOTHING TO HIDE
Had a troubled trip at the mile in last. She was steadied early and made a mid move and was edged for 3rd. She was only 3 ¼ behind the top choice three back at 56-1. Will save ground from the rail, gets a 7 lb weight allowance. Sneaky price play here.

SA - R4 - OPT CLM 80K–1M TURF (2:38)

7 MISS DOUBLE D’ORO 5-2
2 HAVANNA BELLE 2-1
3 FROSTY FRIDAY 4-1
1 SHOW STEALER 6-1

#7 MISS DOUBLE D’ORO
Came off the layoff and ran like a filly who was too much for that MSW group. Start was a bit slow, she ranged up in between foes and cut to the rail going away. It isn’t like the race fell apart either. Bred to turf and go long. Female tree produced ’94 BC Filly Juv winner, Flanders. Big future here.

#2 HAVANNA BELLE
Exits a strong running of the G3 Provnica where runner-up Spanish Queen returned to win easily in the G2 Honeymoon on Sun and the 6th place finisher, Lady Zuzu, was 3rd in the G3 Edgewood at CD last Friday. Top level connections add to the appeal.

SA R4-OPT CLM 62K–1M 1/16 DIRT (2:32)

6 BAILOUTBOBBY 4-1
5 YOU KNOW I KNOW 4-1
3 BATTI MAN 4-1
1 SECRETSATMIDNIGHT 5-2

#6 BAILOUTBOBBY
Last two were improved efforts and ticked his top Beyer fig in the Tokyo City 2 back. Winner of last was allowed to skip away early and was strong in the lane and he came back to run 3rd by 2 in G3 here Sat (97 Beyer). Closer gets a pace situation that suits his style. Late rush gets him up.

#5 YOU KNOW I KNOW
True closer in a race full of speedy types. He’ll likely be allowed to relax early and look to mow them down in the lane. Goes back to the rider who was up for his last win, back in Aug ’13 (11 starts ago). He has been facing much stronger company.

SANTA ANITA R2 (12:59)

MSW 56K–6.5F TURF

6 MARKETPLACE 6-1
9 EXPLICABLE 6-1
4 SWEETER THANCAND 6-1
7 EMYVALE COURT 5-2

#6 MARKETPLACE
Only the 2nd foal out of this AP Indy dam. The other is Enterprising, who in 8th race today (winner of 330k). Female tree also produced the ’91 G1 Beverly D winner (turf), Fire the Groom. Proctor 2 for 9 (22%) with 1sters in MSW at 6.5F on this turf.

#9 EXPLICABLE
Doubt we’ve seen the best of this 120,000 4YO filly. She has a load of turf in the female pedigree and is in her first race on turf today. Attracts top rider (Smith). Clockers stated she looked great prepping in AM.
