Kay also brought in McKinsey who produced an expensive road map.
To kill it like this over house repairs.....seems reckless. He had to have been caught deeper than that. This is a costly firing.

Yeah right, I’m gonna go to work today, round up some employees and have them chop the ice in my driveway that we have up here. Shouldn’t be a problem. The company will love all the liability that comes with that.
The stupidity is mind boggling and this clown ran NYRA????
Didn’t care for the guy when he canceled Family Fun Day the Sunday before the Saratoga meet. My father took me to that, I took my 2 kids to it. It was my first on track experience. It showed me the track was fun. This brain trust canceled that, then puts out we need younger fans for the future of the game.......duhhhhhh...... lol. Apparently, he’s very bright. And I know he pissed off the wrong people up here with moves like that one. Wink, wink

Apparently, it happened up here too. From what I’m reading. I’m just curious as to who got privy to it. The info must of crossed the wrong eyes or ears and under the bus he went. Like I said, there were important people up here that were not happy with him and I am glad for that.

Andy Boy Cuomo inherited his father's absolute hatred for horse racing.
It would not surprise me one bit that Cuomo had some of his thugs go over every move by Kay/NYRA looking for anything that could hurt NYRA.
Having employees do personal work for any executive is a really big deal nowadays, especially if it pertains to public figures who hold important and public jobs. Don't downplay that aspect in the Kay firing, if true.

That was my 2nd thought. NYRA being treated as a political football again. Could be that simple and unfortunate. They are going to Wall Street for money and that's always profitable for a NY select with influence.

A Times Union Oped 1/26/19. The opinion matters.
Editorial: NYRA must explain this
Quote:
Not even two years out from under state oversight, which was required to lift NYRA from corruption-fueled financial disaster, the entity that runs thoroughbred racing in the state finds itself caught in scandal again with the abrupt resignation of its top executive, CEO and President Christopher Kay. The circumstances are disturbingly murky, with NYRA declining to talk about what it calls a personnel matter.
|
That's an unacceptable dodge.

NY gaming commission met Monday night. Here’s a boots-on-the-ground review.
Quote:
There were two items of interest to thoroughbred racing participants and fans that could be discussed. One was a proposed regulation that sought to weaken the existing rule that was adopted following an increase in racing fatalities at Aqueduct in late 2011 to early 2012. The other was the Commission’s response to the sudden and unexpected resignation of Chris Kay as President and CEO of the New York Racing Association.
As usual, the Commission tried to start the meeting about 40 minutes after the scheduled start, but then spent an additional 10 minutes working out audio and video transmission issues.

Case Closed According to Morris Peters.
Oversight Board Backs NYRA's Handling of Kay
Quote:
"NYRA's process played out the way it should: There was a complaint, they took it seriously and investigated, the NYRA board took definitive action when the concerns were deemed founded, and there was a quick resolution,'' said Morris Peters, a spokesman for the oversight board.
The panel is chaired by Robert Williams, an adviser to Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the executive director of the state Gaming Commission.

Every time I see this thread--I think of EMD's bizarre, 5 or 6 paragraph open letter to Mr Kay.
I actually miss ol' EMD.
