Belterra Opening Day
Belterra Park in Cincinnati opens sans fans on Thursday.
Everybody Fired Up???
Of course, their timing couldn't be worse. Churchill, Belmont back up and running.
Very little information being put out by management. The website still says "Check back later for updates."
I am obviously one of the few who patronize and wager on the Belterra (formerly River Downs) cards. They are scheduled to run 75 days, Tuesday through Fridays. That is a positive move. Probably years too late.
My concern is that without a TV platform (No TVG, FS, etc), who is going to be attracted to our product. It s available on RTN. While I hope it is, this isn't going to be a Gulfstream, Churchill, Belmont, Fonner, or Will Rogers Downs situation, where the handle exceeds a live crowd handle. The Ohio circuit - Belterra, Thistledown, and Mahoning Valley depend on the success of this track. It scares me that the casino oriented management are calling the shots. The casino is also closed to live patrons.
I do not have an online wagering account, and don't even know who carries Belterra. Perhaps someone can help me here.
According to the wagering schedule, they have done away with the Queen City Pick Six (mercifully), the Pik 5, and are offering 8 race cards with two Pick 4s, Rolling Pick 3s and Doubles on both ends of the card.
Here's hoping for the best for our "zombie track" Belterra, but expecting, well you know...........................

I use Xpressbet. They are showing Belterra on their schedule for Friday.

Twin Spires carries Belterra or it did last meet.
Sucks it will be with no fans. Has a great on track atmosphere.

Love Belterra. Bris has data files for Thursday/8 races going.
You can bet Belterra @ XB and TS-to name a couple I know.
BTW...if anyone's interested (as all Pace-View users should be ) -
Thistledown also is opening tomorrow.
If you don't care for the big-time hoity-toity venues...these two tracks are right in your handicapping wheelhouse, along with GGX.

Belterra and Thistledown both got some "prime time" from TVG today, due to Belmont and Churchill both vacating TVG and occupying Fox Sports.
As a result Belterra Park recorded just short of a million dollars in handle, while Thistledown did just short of two million bucks.
Should the present arrangement continue, with Belterra running Tuesday through Thursday, and with coverage on TVG, this will work out well for the Cincinnati venue.
It was also good to hear the voice of Ed Meyer back in the booth at Belterra after a year's absence due to illness. While Meyer will never claim to be Tom Durkin, hie is one of us and we are happy to have him back.

thank you tVG for carrying Thisle Downs. it was a lot of fun watching BUCKEYE BULLET win The Michael F, Rowland Memorial Handicap for the third time off a 2 year layoff. BULLETS last race was that very same stake race 2 years ago. equally as fun was collecting $10 for that winning ticket.
