Upcoming movie: The Wrastler
Yeah I know, he's largely now only a strange little parody of himself, but even so, I've always held out hope he had some good stuff to deliver.
I give you, Mickey Rourke in...."The Wrestler"...a down and out two bit wrestler that's pissed away his life and career. By a noted director (I've only seen "Pi" of his films, I thought it was great.)
now if Mickey isn't money in a role like this...he never will be, and I'll give up rooting for him altogether.

how is this not worth $10 at the local cinemaplex I ask?
Quote:
Back in the '80s, Randy "The Ram" Robinson (real name: Robin Ramzinsky) was a hero-stud pro wrestler; he fought "the Ayatollah" top of the card at the Garden. But after 20 years on the downalator, his body ballooned with exercise, bloated with steroids and damaged with the death of a thousand cuts, Randy works tank towns for a few hundred bucks. He's been locked out of his Jersey trailer home for laggard payments. And to secure the fans' roving attention, his ring rivals are getting into extreme fighting; one fellow, who looks like an angry Ozark farmer, asks Randy if, during their bout, he can use a staple gun on his chest and back.

Director Darren Aronosfshy went from Pi and Requium for a Dream to this and is now in production with BPitt to do the "Irish" Mickey Ward story and then a 'todays' version of RoboCop? Strange career.
What ever happened to Rourkes face? He looks like he's lived 5 lifetimes since
the popcorn scene in Diner.

Whoa, dude; don't blink or you'll miss this very clever scene --- Mickey has a big stain on his abode. It is intended as a very sneaky Rourke Shack test. Don't miss the, um ... trailer ... ?

the director is slightly suspect as I read they nearly cast Nick "Steel" Cage-match for the title role. (truthfully)

Thanks for the heads up Chick; I like Rourke…much underrated character actor.
As far as his face the man was a boxer for years. He was BRILLIANT in “Sin City” as one of the all time great movie heavy’s…Marv.

While aware of his 'boxing', I was thinking it more of the plastic surgery gone awry variety.
Marv had a lot of help from a green screen bonanza and a consummate costume. Tough to mess that up.

Really…
I can think of 10,000 actors who couldn’t pull that off. Just a brilliant performance.

I caught the pope of Greenwich Village a week or so back on TCM if memory serves me right. Where Eric Roberts and Mickey try to get rich on a race at Monmouth park......... interesting acting for their early ages.
I think it is just age......... no surgery
My latest Joanne Rivers "they tightened it up too much "
award goes to Barry Manilow............ have you checked his cheeks out lately?
2003 on the right.........2008 on the left

I don't see it. I think the costume & make-up were nifty.

Were looking through different eyes Mack; as I remember you also didn’t see the brilliance in Joe Bonamassa, just as I’m sure I would miss the brilliance in something your passionate about. I think we can agree; that’s why there’s more then one section at Blockbuster and Tower records.

I watched Angel Heart last night, an odd movie.
I don't know what's up with the Hollywood fascination with cartoon faces. It would seem like there are more than enough cautionary tales to keep even the most wrinkled and/or battered face away from any of these "doctors". Like Meg Ryan, a perfectly presentable woman before, now she looks like Nicholson in the Joker.
Maybe in the future they can do a remake of Roger Rabbit, but without the need for animation. They can just cast all the cartoon faces...

Archie Bell of The Drells fame, to Joan "I.P." Rivers, Barry Man-I-Love and Mickey R.: "Do the Tighten Up, yeah ... now you can do it; so baby get to it ..."
