DUE TO A WINTER SAFETY INITIATIVE, ALL RIDERS CARRIED AN ADDITIONAL TWO POUNDS
This footnote appeared in the chart notes for races #6-9 at Aqu today.

I think it has to do with winter clothing. It was 28 degrees today with 16 MPH winds.

Many states/racing commissions have this policy buried in their rules and regulations:

...Upon approval by the board of stewards or their designee, jockeys may be allowed up to two pounds more than published weights to account for inclement weather clothing and equipment...

Cancel looked pretty bad on Boom Boom Kaboom considering that both of his contenders and had gate issues and did not fire, and then the FTS also didn't fire.

But I think that's honestly the ceiling on his skills/talent, and he was on a now 0-23 maiden that would normally be considered 'badly underlayed' in a field that included possible contending races from the and

good rule if it lets them wear long johns or whatever

For sure, and some unwritten policies likewise extending jocks a measure of latitude at the scales. Such vagaries made me very uncomfortable during my tenure as clerk of scales.

I could not get out of that job fast enough.

Boom Boom Bust-oom

Boom Boom has a "character flaw".
While BBK has probably paid his way,
it was way back in July 2020 that i
added a DRF Formulator note after
Andy on America's Day At The Races
flatly stated
"This is a horse you never, ever, EVER bet again."
Almost 2 years later, that statement has saved me a LOT of
money tossing BBK from my horizontal bets, while using in
vertical action. (P.S.: Thanks Andy!)

Tough to "sit chilly" if you wear longjohns.

The didn't want to load, and then I think (haven't replayed it, if it's even on film) the Vincent 8/5? broke the gate open. Then I practically got run over by people jogging over to the SAM to make a bet on Cancel and BBK

that ? or the winner Breech? may not win back for a while either
