I think most feel like it's just a matter of time over there and some aren't acknowledging. I say one maybe two more years

Problem with Finger Lakes is in an effort to keep racing going and horses running they have gotten really strict on shipping and that irritates some trainers and owners. Without a turf course, PID will always be an easy ship and certain horses will just run better there. Lakes with their back up against the wall is now just strong arming which irritates people and nobody wins but it's desperation really, I understand

and look I love the track, it's an hour from my house, like the people and support it but it's a dead man walking. Lagos is going to obliterate that place. It's just too bad they couldn't come together with smaller grandstands, turf course, new casino, entertainment, hotel all in one place. Doesn't make sense to me but I'm sure it did $$ wise for somebody

NYRA needs a AAA farm club, just too bad really

i didn't know that, i am very sorry to hear, he is a great guy.

what people don't understand is that a healthy Finger Lakes is big for downstate racing and the breeding programs. if there isn't another store to race, breeders won't breed as much. i know, i have a horse that couldn't cut the mustard at the bigger tracks and he is at Finger Lakes now. chances are i will have another one there soon. at least the place gives me a chance to get back some of the money i have in those horses so that i can keep going supplying other horses to race at NYRA

Nice exacta in the 5th today 2 year old maiden race 6-1/14-1. Paid $114. There was some chatter about the first time starter that won.. 2nd had some nice works but failed to break first out never engaged. Made some sense versus a bunch of the others

Thanks Dan,

I went to college in Western NY from 1972 to 1976 and worked there as a salesman from 1976-1978. While at school I would borrow my then girlfriend's and current wife ( yes 40 years she has stayed with this degenerate horseplayer) and go to Finger Lakes. While working in sales I would finish my route up early on Friday and head to "the lakes". Tried to get there in time for Ross Morton to announce the changes and get to what is actually my favorite paddock in the world. You can get so close to the horses in the walking ring you could touch them. Even better, you can smell the horses that were loaded up with lineament ( likely not legal today), see the horses that were sore and patched up, those that were dappled and those with rashes on their skin. and make that part of your handicapping regimen.

Followed the LAKES diligebntly until about a month ago when I had the same sentiments as Lambo above. I am ok with chalk and usually found nuggets to play a few longhots. Follow the usual pro-rail bias and did ok. This year was futile for me and my own paranoia about too many family members racing horses in a race just got the best of me and after 40 years I had to stop.

But you know, come January the anticipation of the LAKES opening will kick in and i'll be back.

I don't know how they can address the small field and lack of horses with so many OHIO, WV, Fort Erie and Presque Isle all competing for the slower horses and the Engleharts getting most of the NYRA discards. I wish I had an answer.

One thing they should do is at least paint the grandstand facade the TV angle and anywhere else the TV has behind the winner circle as well as anywhere else the tv focuses on including the paddock.

Make the visual experience better even for the simulcast players and not so dreary. It actually works. Little Northfield Park did it in Ohio years ago and their handle far outdraws larger tracks.

You're right about the visuals of FL,Bello. Not that things have to be slick but it looks like they're using those shoulder held VHS camcorders from the 80's.A little shaky and the whole race always seems to have a dull visual sheen to it.

This is great stuff, thanks for sharing..

The biggest win bet I ever hit was at FL and solely because of a beautiful and dappled physical appearance in the paddock. He was 55/1, and I even had to survive an inquiry..

NYS is as backwards as they come.
FL had a Horse rescue barn right on the premises.
How many other tracks have that?

Get ready NYRA, you are going to a lot of NY Breds coming your way.
Everyone ready for $5000 claimers?

Taking the money away from FL and sending it to Baby Mario's new Whore House and Slot Room is ridiculous - politics at its worse. Little Cuomo is a crooked bastard.

Maybe I knew this at one point, but was this part of a backroom deal to get slots into Aqu a few yrs back? I don't like slots subsides, but if you're going to subsidize a gambling entity (beyond NYRA), make it Finger Lakes, not the leaches at OTB.

Backroom deals....political quid pro quos......all this bullcrap....fixing with the politicos and lining their pockets is worse than any race fixing that will ever go on at any racetrack. It really is pathetic.

This whole slot business smells...always has, always will

Much of the money that would have gone to FL is now going to Tioga Park.
I guess that is where Baby Mario launders his money.

The whole deal smells.

People are benefiting from this big time, but not those who pay taxes or those who provide jobs.

They get the same end of the stick as Dirty Harry got.

BAU in NY.
