When the gates opened in the 3rd race today, Jackie Black (a 3yo filly by Discreet Cat) just stood there flat-footed and didn't move an inch. She was declared a starter, the gate operated properly.
Her last race was on 10/22, the 6th, and guess what? She did the same, but that time she was declared a non starter as it was determined that she was not given a fair start.
Looking at the video for that race, it's hard to tell what happened. Her gate opens but also seems to bounce back a little, causing her to hesitate. Or maybe it was her back end, one of the starting crew motions with his hand and she then comes out in a jog..
Anyway, it's an interesting question whether Jackie Black didn't move today because of what happened last time, or maybe she's just not that interested in racing much these days. She came to FL from AQU in May, and won an allowance. Since then, her efforts have been poor, and she's now in for a bottom tag..
My point is, I think Jackie would like the rest of the year off. See you in the spring, Jackie?

Does anyone like Kid Kaos in today's 8th race at Finger Lakes...or am I the only one? It looks like an ultra-competitive race...unless the late scratches end up strangling all the value out of it.

He's in tomorrow's 8th race, not today's. Kid Kaos used to be in my virtual stable back in the day.. he was an excellent work horse and showed promise. Unfortunately, his performances in the day never matched his mornings

The 3rd race today is a $35K allowance restricted to MA breds! A nod to the Suffolk shippers, I presume..

Breeders fund race and they have no place to race so FL gets the nod.
Next year likely at Brockton Fair

On top of a constant stream of chalky winners Finger Lakes is taking extra money out of the payouts.
12/03/15
Race 1 ex. $40.30 at Sam Houston, $40.20 at Finger Lakes.
Race 2 ex. $15.50 at sam Houston, $15.40 at Finger Lakes, the tri. was also shorted .
It goes on & on. Up to an extra 40 cents was taken from some of the payouts.
They also took extra money out of any W/P or S that paid over $15.00.
I can't understand why tracks keep looking for ways to chase the customers away from racing.

NY tracks do not round up to the dime for anything over $10.00. I guess Texas does. Your comments are correct, and it would be better for us all if they would, but few us jurisdictions do. Not a Finger Lakes only issue by any meams

Lots of jobs at stake thanks to Baby Mario. Must have gotten a hell of a kick back on this one. Sell out have the state for personal gain.

With the reputation of N.Y. political schemes, it would come as no surprise to find quite a few palms that were greased.
looking at the location of the upstate casino being basically in the middle of nowhere, one has to think "about that one"

The casino makes no sense whatsoever.
NYS will do anything to claim it created 10,000 jobs, even destroying 100,00 of them to do it.

100k jobs is a bit of an exaggeration, but point taken.
And that little casino, and it is small by standards will not create 10k jobs. No way.
Tyre, NY is just 33 miles from Finger Lakes.....and only 100 miles from Casino Niagara.....
None of this makes a lick of sense.
There's something going on here. And it does't smell to good.
There is a poster who mentioned that Finger Lakes as a racing facility is more or less doomed even without the casino in Tyre....
Who knows.....Small fields. Endless parade of favorites. Short prices such as $4 dime super payoffs.....UGH...

As an aside, I want to know how FL's handle has been doing year to year since they started slots. They do not release the end of meet handle stats to any publication, as far as I can tell. I even inquired to the writer of the Bloodhorse article I linked (who covers FL stories and gaming in WNY), but he did not respond back.

There will always be a program for state breds to race with purse bumps.
Doesn't matter. NYRA can write state bred races all day long
