Again...back in the 80s...worth the 1hr viewing time -- if you want to understand why we are where we are currently, here in the former USA.

When I was going to university in the UK I got a chance to travel all over Europe. Everyone back home told me how hated Americans were.

I experienced the complete opposite!

Now, it could have been about the expectation of tourist dollars, but often I was the quintessential broke college kid.

My take is that The Ugly American image was mostly in the minds of Americans who were, in fact, pretty ugly in their treatment of others.

I would think that the general public practicing austerity would mean that there would be more for us at better prices.

What’s not to like about that?

We should forget indoor plumbing too while we're at it...TJDave will be by soon to tell us all how that's a great idea as well.

Austerity + no indoor plumbing = paradise

Buy a clue, TJ! Capitalism doesn't work that way. Austerity would mean lower demand, which drive prices up, not down!

And how would there be "more for us"? Are the "us" exempt from practicing austerity? Only "them" will be required to practice it, so that the "us" would get the goodies?
