When asked about this bump in the road Dennis Drazin said he wasn’t aware of this provision in Sweeney’s bill. My take is the longer you stall the more time Atlantic City has to ramp up and have the necessary equipment in place to take sports bets.

It really shouldnt take long for the borgata to get up and running, the autotote machines can handle it. Monmouth's monopoly window may be very short.

The Jersey legislators should have already had ironed this out and ready to be passed and signed by the governor as soon SCOTUS ruled. Instead typical Jersey-style they are putzing around with it.
Its insane.

Sweeney did this to protect Atlantic City he couldn’t care less about anyone else in the state. This gives the casinos time to tool up their sports book operations and be on equal footing with Monmouth Park. Pure bs by this rat.

Onefast hit the nail on the head. Thankfully the delay isn't more than a couple of weeks hopefully.
One cool thing I read in the bill is exchange wagering was included so hopefully the Betfair exchange partners up with someone. Years ago when the Matchbook exchange was still open to U.S. residents I used to bet sports there. Live betting for national tv games on an exchange was incredibly fun and profitable.

They already partner with the golden nugget for their New Jersey virtual casino
So it’s not too much of a stretch to think they would partner up with them on the sports exchange.

Didn't Churchill Downs just partner up with the Golden Nugget to offer sports betting? Unless a casino or track can have more than 1 sports betting partner. I'll check out the bill again later.

Figured same but if that is the case, why did the 2014 law passed allow racetracks and "former racetracks" to offer sports betting? Former racetracks defined as one having held races within the past 15 years. The former racetrack in question is Garden State Park, which last ran in 2001 (< 15 years from the law's passage in 2014). Pennwood (Penn Nat'l/Parx partnership) plans to move ahead with a sports book.

Another thought given Sweeney's desire to protect AC- I think doubtful but any thoughts as to whether or not Monmouth will get any juice from the casino sports action, or some other additional "help" considering it did all the heavy lifting to get the Supreme Court ruling? Would seem only fair but since when does that matter!

Murphy will take a few days to sign it into law. That is a given. I blame everyone involved on both ends one Dennis Drazin and his group for not knowing about this provision and Sweeney and his group for taking a long time to get this to legislation and the Senate and finally Murphy, this could’ve all been done while the Supreme Court of the United States was making their decision it’s amazing these guys can screw up a ham sandwich!

Today's stories had Delaware going ahead of NJ. I don't think this is really a big deal it's not like you have a big first-mover advantage. Monmouth has received plenty of publicity.
I have heard that Monmouth was targeting Memorial Day to take ceremonial wagers from politicians and others involved in the fray. I sent a note to Drazin this morning suggesting that taking ceremonial bets on that day to generate publicity would be in bad taste (at best) and potentially lead to negative publicity (at worst) unless the named charities are Veterans-related.

Too bad for those guys that might have been sitting in jail or paid fines over the past twenty years because they operated online sports books.
