Vino Rosso
Given the thought Vino Rosso should never have been DQ'D
in the Jockey Club, and for Mr Velasquez's statement in the DRF
(11-1-2019) That "I just don't have anything good enough with
Todd right now":
A: Todd Pletcher may utilize the Ortiz brothers on a go forward basis
in lieu of JV on any future mounts.
B: the insane DQ of Vino and the subsequent win today sheds a new light
on Horse of the year; Quite simply, had Vino won the Jockey Club race, he
would be the Horse of the Year.Today's huge win underscores this point.
Sure, Jockeys have the right to select their mounts and overlook their
connections to trainers that have selected them for their abilities etc, and the
flip is trainers have the right to select the right jockey for a specific race
regardless of previous relationships.
Hoping justice prevails for this horse and his owner

I can make a strong argument for him for HOTY anyway. He ran the whole year, won the Gold Cup, 2nd in the JCGC after the ABSOLUTELY CORRECT disqualification, 1st in the BCC.
Great training job by Pletcher too.

Bricks and Mortar wins HOTY and it shouldn't even be close.

I'd say Mitole has a better shot than Vino Rosso, but neither have a real shot. Vino was the best horse today though.

Mitole will win the eclipse for Male Sprinter and should win for Older Dirt Male.

Matured from a potential talent, to a serious racehorse.
Is there an award for 'Top Dirt Router' ? He's the best in that category right now + seasonal bragging rights.

Hope it's Mitole.
I prefer not to suffer thru more speeches by Repole who is totally lacking in class and humility.
Which many who know what those things actually ARE noticed were lacking in him yesterday.
Not up for debating this. If you didn't notice it then there's no point arguing .

It is too bad (though not unexpected) that Vino Rosso is retired, but I am really grateful that both Mckinzie and Higher Power will race again next year. Particularly Higher Power, who I've been a fan of since he was in Von Hemel's stable, since he seems to be getting better with age. I hope he has a good year in 2020.

Given how weak the Handicap division has gotten since all the top 3 year olds started being retired early, there's a lot of money to be made if you can put together a consistent season and stay healthy. We saw that with Accelerate.
Given that, I totally agree with you on Higher Power. He's turned into a good horse and could have a really, really nice 2020.
As for McKinzie, the Pegasus is only 9 furlongs. Seems perfect for him.

I'm no longer embarrassed to say he was my pick in the KY Derby last year
