I was an IT manager for 9 years. If the laptop was the property of CBS then they had every right to take it back. If it was her personal property that would be another story.

In the company I worked for if someone was going to be fired the HR manager would give me a heads up. While they were telling the person they weren't needed anymore I would lock up all of their access so they couldn't access after they were fired. Standard practice in most businesses.

I remember during the controversy revolving around the athletes kneeling during the national anthem...when a football team (I think it was the Dallas Cowboys) decided to lock arms while standing as the national anthem was playing. And Trump declared the next day that kneeling was wrong...but locking arms while standing was acceptable behavior during the anthem. As if Donald Trump is qualified to set the "ethics code" in this country.
