Now, though, a whole different story.
Sure - cancel a few flights from China - it's all under control here.
Shut the f**k up, will ya? We're making money here.
Someone check h4c for signs of a mini-stroke...

Maybe he has Corona.
Or a few too many Coronas.

I say we stop ALL travel, direct and indirect, from China to the US.
Screw trade.

Unlike climate fraud, THIS is a very real and imminent threat.

If you are into science, and not conspiracy theories, etc. then these are the sites that you should be reading at:

University of Chicago School of Medicine's handy FAQ style resource (esp. the comment section, that contains some summaries that are a bit less stale then the WHO sitreps).

John Hopkins University Live Tracker Map of the spread of the coronavirus

The CDC's Dedicated Coronavirus Resource

The WHO's Dedicated Coronavirus Resource

New England Journal of Medicine website about the transmission dynamics of the Wuhan coronavirus, which they're calling "NCIP", short for Novel Coronavirus– Infected Pneumonia

That is all. I will trust the world's best infectious disease experts over stuff I read from laypeople on the internet. (nor the propaganda put out by a communist government who is falling over itself to get this right, since it fell asleep on the SARS thing and is going to go overboard making sure they get this one right).

This is similar to SARS, but actually less deadly; except its more highly transmissible.****

And just as a reminder to myself, my Mom got H1N1 (!!!) back when there was a breakout, as an elderly person in late 80s, with other major health concerns, albeit 30 days in the hospital to make it thru.....I guess a testament to genes I may have inherited, I hope.........but emerged with COPD, which is not suprisiing given that she was a lifelong smoker. She is still alive and kickin' at several years into her 90s now. People do survive really bad viruses when they live where there is sanitation, good medical care, etc.

That is hardly much ado about nothing.
Except for some major things, like the fact that scientists had not even discovered viruses in 1918. Thus, there weren't even any lab tests available to diagnose a flu virus.

And that the world population was about 20% of what it is today (hence the % of people who died would be vastly skewed).

And except that sanitation, simple hygiene practices most people use in modern society, not to mention good health care, sophisticated medical facilities, (with quarantine areas properly aired and top notch disinfectants) and antiboitics avaialble now to treat "secondary" infections that happen to people experiencing immune depression when they are really sick).

Medical knowledge and interventions are quite a lot different now than in 1918.

(Really, I have no idea why people put forth such ideas, 1918 and 2020 is hardly comparable ..... on any level )

There is little doubt in my mind that mom would be dead now from the H1N1 she got.....since she was also quite elderly at the time.....but we recognized her symptoms very early on, got her to a hospital, and she had every intervention available to modern medicine. If it were 1918, none of that would have happened.

Yes, modern medicine would have gone a long way to curbing the 1918 Spanish Flu.
The comparison of 1918 and 2020 is important.
The day may come when a mutation that is beyond what modern medicine is capable of subduing is always a distinct possibility.
Surely, you can see that. If not, I can't help you.
The comparison is important to show how lethal these bugs can be.

We already have those. They're called super bugs, and are opportunistic and found prevalently in hospitals, due to over-use of antibiotics. (not viruses though)

I see this is going to be 4th grade science class. sigh.

I've been reading major virologist's blogs for well over 20 years, (as a hobby) .......not just when network news tells me I need to learn something that I learned in 4th grade . One of my close friends works with genomes, gene therapy and viral vectors and how viruses create pathways to transport their genomes to the inside the cells they infect. So I get to have lots of conversations about it.

Not real interested in the network news version, but thanks anyway. I simply entered the topic to suggest sites to read at....... if you are not a conspiracy theorist. Hope it it was helpful. If not just ignore my post.

I'm officially now OUT Of this topic, in every way, now that even a science topic has been turned into a political one.

My prediction is that it will just continue to devolve.

that is very impressive they can build a HUGE hospital in 2 weeks - there are places in USA that it takes 2 years before getting approved for a building permit

In the US, it takes a long time to grease the unions.

Come on the movie OUTBREAK was fiction...filmed in the little town of Ferndale where the shortest race track in the state is located.
