At least Edmonton has the young superstar that will make them forget. Have to believe Hall's numbers no where near where they were if McDavid played the full season. I don't get the Subban trade at all. I really like that guy.

Trading Subban might be okay. However when you trade him for a 30 year old defenseman with TEN years remaining on his contract it makes no sense. I don't care how front loaded Weber's contract is. Weber isn't even the Preds best defenseman. Terrible trade and I'm not the biggest Suban fan. He takes a lot of chances. But he is very talented.

Word is that Isles likely to lose Okposo, Nielsen and Martin. A little surprised with the last. Got some work to do.

Re: Subban, there have been persistent rumours of lack of team chemistry, issues between PK and the coach, etc. Weber is still a very good defenceman, probably the best available substitute and although his contract is long the cap hits are quite manageable. He will bring a different attitude and style of play and Montreal seems to need that right now.

Re: Hall for Larsson, Hall didn't make the 2014 Olympic team, and he's not on Canada's World Cup roster for this September. So the Team Canada management doesn't even rate him as one of the 13 best Canadian forwards age 23 and up, never mind adding in any European or American forwards nor any Canadian forward under the age of 23.

Hall is a very good scorer but turns over the puck a lot and isn't very good defensively. He's probably not considered one of the top 25 forwards in the NHL so why would people think that he'd fetch a top 25 defenceman? Larsson is a young guy who really took a step forward last season, just his second full year in the league and already was playing on New Jersey's top pairing, which admittedly isn't a great feat but the Devils' D was certainly not as horrible as the Oilers'. Edmonton was the motivated buyer in this case so NJ figured to get a bit the best of it from a pure "value" standpoint but the Oilers' D is so leaky that they have to do something about it if they want to finally make the playoffs after a 10-year absence.

Also, a lot of the chatter these days is based purely on analytics and those who think that the data crunchers know everything are in for some surprises along the way, especially with relatively inexperienced D-men such as Larsson.

Biggest winner of free agency has to be Bissonnette. His self-deprecating Twitter chronicle of the job search has managed to get him another minor league deal. Next deal should be head of marketing for the league.

Eastern scribes have not been exposed to Hall's talents.
There is no doubt that Hall is among the 5 top left wingers in the game.
Devils fans will be in for a treat with Hall.
He's absolutely electric.
He'll light up the Eastern conference.
That Hall and Logan Couture weren't chosen for Team Canada this fall has to do with back stage management politics of the NHL that we're not privy to.
Hall is one hell of a good addition to the New Jersey Devils.

He's definitely a talented offensive player, especially as a goal scorer. But also weak defensively and prone to turnovers, which are the real reasons why he wasn't selected to Team Canada as opposed to back stage politics. And as the best forwards are found at centre more than on the wing, he might be the 5th best left winger and still not among the top 25 forwards or just barely in the top 25.

Oilers' management made the best deal that they could. It's not Chiarelli's fault that the fanbase had unrealistic expectations regarding Hall's trade value.
