Jacksonville was initially tough for NE because they have such a great pass defense. NE adjusted and moved the ball quite well in the second half. Philly's defensive strength is their rush defense. The good thing about betting sports is that the game's outcome is usually conclusive enough to settle the arguments that preceded it. We'll see who is right in two weeks.

The same Jacksonville that gave up over 40 to Pittsburgh and San Francisco in a one month period? I don't understand the hype surrounding the Jaguars defense.

I might be wrong but I believe the only QB to beat New England and Tom Brady is Eli Manning.

No doubt, but stirring the pot is fun while waiting. Some bettors get very emotional regarding their betting choices.

Add to that the emotional side i.e. being an Eagles fan and over exuberance. I may bet the over/under but I want no part of the points.

I felt this year the opposite of what many did as far as the NFC being stronger than the AFC. IMO, their was a vacuum left because of the Cowboy's and Giant's weak teams.

+6.5 seems to be the right number if I was going to bet the Eagles. It is just extremely difficult to beat the BB and TB dynasty.

Multi Million $ Bet

Quote:
MGM vice president Jay Rood spoke to ESPN and confirmed that one of the casino’s regulars placed the substantial bet. The casino won’t confirm exactly how much the bet was for, but did say that they’re “heavy Eagles now.”

It was enough to change the casino’s line from Patriots -5.5 to Patriots -4.5, which is substantial — considering one bet made the difference. It’s the largest the casino has received, though Rood said he’s received many other substantial bets for the Patriots — but nothing quite as large as the wager on Wednesday.

Saban and the Belichick/Brady combo have ruined football.

It's so tricky betting against the Patriots because they regularly beat more talented teams with a combination of brilliant coaching, great leadership at QB, and cheating or near cheating. The only caveat is that their Super Bowls are always close games...in the seven SB's with Brady/Belichick they have won or lost by three points four times and four points twice. Once they won by six.

I think the Eagles can run the ball against the Patriots, but Foles needs to have a good game. If Foles is not accurate early, Belichick will put everyone on the line to stop their running game.

Why the Philadelphia Eagles will win Super Bowl 52:

1. Nick Foles has a cannon for an arm. He’ll be heaving “mortars” all over the field. No, they won’t always hit their target; yet, when you throw the ball 35 or 40 times, you’re bound to have several completions. Foles has thrown 7 TDs this year at an average of 21 yds. per throw. The Patriots secondary is porous. They rank in the bottom third of the NFL. I don’t think the Patriots pass rush is that impressive. I’m sure the Eagles will keep the Pats’ defensive line honest with occasional ground plays and play-action.

2. The Eagles can “move the chains”. The Eagles were third in the NFL in third-down conversions. In the playoffs, they’ve been 16 for 27, a ridiculous 60%. Much of this was against the Minnesota Vikings who have the best third-down defense in history. Both the Jaguars and Titans, the Patriots playoff opponents, ranked in the lower half of the NFL teams when it came to 3rd down conversions. One of the ways to beat the Patriots is to keep Tom Brady off the field.

3. The Eagles have the best defensive line in football. The Eagles allowed the fewest rushing yards in the NFL. Philadelphia will not allow Brady much time to set up in the pocket. Result: hurried throws, incompletions, sacks, and interceptions. Further, the Eagles have a lot of depth. This has allowed defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz to keep his top linemen, Fletcher Cox and Vinny Curry, fresh for the playoffs. The key again will be to put pressure on Tom Brady. The Patriots team, as a whole, are much less effective when Brady is under pressure, i.e., three or more sacks. Finally, of the two defensive lines, the Eagles are fresher. The Patriots linemen, on the other hand, have suffered their share of nagging injuries.

4. One final point: The status of Ron Gronkowski. “Gronk” took quite a helmet-to-helmet shot in the Jaguars game. His status, with a little over one week to the Super Bowl, is still unclear. He must go through the concussion protocol. Sometimes those type of head injuries heal quickly, sometimes they don’t. If “Gronk” can’t go, then all the more reason to believe the Eagles will win the Super Bowl. If “Gronk” is out, that’s one less weapon for Brady. If that’s the case, watch for double-coverage on Amendola. The Eagles may well just shut down the Brady-led Patriots offense and then take advantage of the suspect Patriots defense.

Good analysis, Teach. I agree that the Eagles are the more talented team. Whether or not that's enough against this dynasty...

I've bet against the Patriots four times in the Super Bowl and won three bets including their win against the Eagles when they didn't cover, so it's certainly not impossible. I lost last year, bet the Falcons, who should have won, but the Falcons made some terrible coaching mistakes and bad calls in the second half. You can't lose your cool against the Patriots.

I sincerely hope you had a lot of equity built up! Be honest, you had at least 50,000 on them.

We know Nick Foles did it also. What a great performance
