That's not uncommon. Employees of many jobs are forced to sign away their rights and consent to a drug testing policy, or they will not be hired in the first place.

It's standard in the industry, Jason. But after first stating that I (virtue signaling alert..virtue signaling alert!!) don't do drugs and could pass a test anytime, I will say that I've seen (presumably dirty) individuals run, I mean SPRINT from security rather than submit, and my impression was they came out at least as well-maybe BETTER-in the long run than had they complied and tested positive.

Wasn't there a prominent jockey who showed up 'Bald'! on hair-sample day?

I'm a little biased towards the working man, but I can see the employer's side as well.
Those who are responsible for safe transport etc of others have to make sacrifices. Also those who are replaceable and have no special talent have less 'leverage' in the process.

(virtue? from me as well) I'm pretty boring now socially or with any 'experimentation',
but as far as medical privacy; merely a slight change in either my current condition or level of medical care, would flag banned substances and I suppose leave me in a position to have to present several doctor's notes.
If I were to gain employment again, I would hope to be evaluated by my job performance.

When MVR 1st opened any employee could possibly be randomly tested for any banned substances, including NICOTINE! In fact, any original potential employee was told they needed a negative nicotine test to be hired. That policy was later dropped. Good thing, as there will be very few people working in the Mutuel Department when live racing resumes.

Any chance someone could have started a rumor that there was wide spread drug use at a facility or someone who was dealing had connections to the race tracks? It does seem like the testing was a lot more excessive than normal. Or possibly they needed to reduce the labor force and use drug testing to do it?

The version I heard was that the entire Thistle racing office was tested in order to get one person that was suspect; a kind of shading between random and 'with cause.' I have not heard if the target, or anyone else was a positive.
