The statement from the track will clear a lot of this up.

Anyone watch the head on? From the pan looks like the horse was really trying to get out.

Horse has not recorded a workout in 2021 despite starting 4 times. Basically runs every 4 weeks without working, which is not a good sign in general.
Curiously, the horse is entered for next Friday already ($8K claimer).

Kendrick Carmouche rode like he had suffered a stroke in the first race today.
He tried hard to win,
and his horse was caught,
and he dueled,
and his rival La Kara Mia took an insurmountable advantage,
and then Kendrick's urging and whipping slowed to a Nerf 'waiving' thing.
WTF was that?
I know the 'waiving' thing is what jocks do when their horse is beaten in the stretch (because it shows the public more 'integrity' than wrapping up), but when a placing is still being decided it's not acceptable.
who finished 2nd is a better horse and managed to get 2nd very late, but that doesn't change what happened.

I wasn't going to comment, but criticizing the rider of that horse is ridiculous. He was CLEARLY getting out severely, which was why the rider was having problems riding him. It reminded me of a former board member claiming Jose Ortiz stiffed a 1:9 shot in a four horse field that clearly had an issue during the race.....and continued his lunacy ( well, he's a lunatic....that's what they do ) even after the horse disappeared for the next eight months and was sighted on a farm recuperating.

Just a simple hand ride to the finish and he finishes 3rd easy. He just plain eased up at the 1/16th pole, got nipped at the wire and that absolutely deserves some scrutiny.

I don't think it is easy to give a simple hand ride when a horse wants to head to the outer rail, but I'm not a jockey so I guess I could be wrong.

There are plenty of times to criticize riders. This is really not one of them.

This is a dam good time to criticize a rider. The jockey rode hard down to the 1/16th pole including 2 left hand strikes then switched whip to the right hand and gave 3 strikes, thought he had 3rd, eased up and got nipped at the wire.
Shocking you think this was not a good time to criticize a rider. In jurisdictions such as Europe, Australia, Honk Kong and Japan the stewards would have removed him from the remainder of his mounts and given him days off on the spot.

Apparently not hard at all as this jockey did it the very next day.

To me, this is one of the 50 yard line rides. The horse was bearing out and it got worse when he went left, but then he correctly switched right and seemed to have the issue under control. Then he stopped riding and cost himself 3rd. That's why I said he may have felt something he didn't like in the horse's action and was being safe. Horses often bear in or out when they are hurting a bit. Other than that, he blew 3rd.

He's right.
Jocks can always use this excuse, and in this case, the horse was in fact behaving in such a way that it could very well be 100% true. It's a bad beat if that was your ticket, but we can't fault that. We don't want unsound horses to be sacrificied for placings. Had it been for a win contention, the horse would have likely been hard-ridden, and that is actually a bad thing.
I've read ITT that the horse has already been entered back?? That's not good. This is a case where if the stewards aren't going to fine and suspend the jock, that care of the horse has to become a priority. Scans or x-rays, a vet examine, a vet observed workout should be required, if not a mandatory layoff as well. Spooked by the crowd/shadow/tote-board shouldn't be accepted in a case like this.
I'm sure Kendrick can use the same excuse "Horse felt off" on his Moonshine Sweeper race as well. I cashed the exacta (I keyed the 5 and didn't play the ), but that was a dispicable lack of effort that cheated those who played, and did not have the same lameness-suggestive actions by the horse. But the jockey can always claim that.
It's a brutal sport as is, and without a lot going on behind the scenes, and even if it costs some tickets we have to give some slack towards protecting the health of these horses.
I still haven't seen the public explanation given for either of these two instances.

The significant difference being that Eloquent Lady didn't spit out the bit and shorten-stride despite being hit with the whip.
Calypso Ghost shutdown so quickly that the rider pulled it up past the wire before she had even reached the clubhouse turn.
