Australians hate the exacta

I'd never have guessed it , but the Exacta down under is about as popular as Arafat at a Seder.

According to published stats , it comprises less than 3% of the total handle. Win alone is 50%.

Bet no one here would have guessed it.

This review of Aus racing in pdf is a nice production and a good read.

Thanks to http://www.equidaily.com/ for the link.

I skimmed through it, but did not see the EX breakdown - got a page number?

Does the Australian Racing track A,B,C that is simulcast around the world, mix into the track parimutual pool or is it completely separate? There usually is not much money in there -

Good question on the pool mix, my guess is no, thats usa only, and therefore worthless for serious betting.

Australia, a country of 23 million people, wagers more on thoroughbreds than do the combined 350 million people in USA and Canada.

The exacta bet has never taken off in Australia probably because the quinella bet (pick 1st and 2nd in any order) was introduced long before the exacta and so people got used to taking quinellas and have never really warmed to the exacta

The Australia A, Australia B pools etc are separate from the Australian pools and these pools probably contain North American money only

I noticed that they don't highlight the TAB takeout rates.
From a quick google search...
Win 14.25%
Exacta 20%
Tri 20%
In a land of other options, why does TAB still dominate?

???

What's the point of this thread, and why would anyone care?
Aussie race bettors in the US play into their own pool, which has a higher percentage of the play into the exacta pool anyway, even if it is a small one.

But wait, I thought the TAB and other parimutual pools should be destroyed since Betfair arrived there years ago, at least that's what the track execs here in North America claim would happen if exchange wagering was introduced.
