President Clinton wanted to travel to North Korea during his 2nd term, but just ran out of time because he got stuck in Middle East business.

Because Trump wants to do it though, it's a "madman" strategy.

Lower lever talks get you lower level results.

When N Korea held those two American girls hostage, Bill Clinton flew over to successfully negotiate their release.
One the Air Force jet back home, Clinton was sitting alone in the back of the plane, head in hand, looking worried.

"Cheer up, sir!"
"They are free. You have nothing to worry about."

"Hillary!" replied Clinton.
"I haven't been home for three days. She'll flip out on me.

"But sir, just tell her what you did. I'm sure she'll understand."

"You don't understand." said Clinton.
"That's what I told her LAST weekend!"

Geopolitically, this has been interesting to watch.

All sides have played their hands well so far.

You think, huh? I wonder if Trump knows that Kim also wrote a book? It's called "The Art of Total[itarian] BS".

I'm sure Trump is aware that this is posturing. He shouldn't have made the meeting comment as they are already walking that back but he knows this is all posturing. What the North is going to offer isn't particularly surprising to anyone who looks at the Clinton handling of the regime.

The US has done a good job of isolating and ratcheting up pressure on the North forcing them to act.

The North has done a very good job of working some room to maneuver through their talks with the South as well as some successful flights that give them some credibility and leverage.

The South was able to host a good Olympic games. Garner lots of international admiration. Stock up capital and play the role of deal broker.

All sides get decent marks so far...

I, too, am certain of one thing: Unlike Trump's predecessors he knows Kim cannot be trusted.

I don't think anyone has ever trusted the regime problem is you also don't really want it to fail...

Slick Willy did. He solved the No. Korea problem, remember? Made it safer for the entire world, too.

North Korea was relatively quiet until the "Axis of Evil" speech.

Same for Iran at the time...

That speech was the neo-con coming out party.

Nice deflection. So...Bush brought out the evil in the NK totalitarian state? NK wasn't an evil regime until Bush pissed them off? Ditto questions for Iran, too.
Bush made North Korean and Iran evil nations?

Meanwhile...Slick Willy exasperated the situation in North Korea and lied through his teeth about it to the entire world, telling everyone the world is a safer place because of the deal he made with NK. The Slickster actually became NK's enabler.
