Are fireworks 'celebrations' stupid?

Fireworks injure people, scare the crap out of family pets and other animals and are absolutely useless, what are we celebrating anyway, the police state that America has become?

What's the benefit to ignite gunpowder and create loud noises?

I'm going to agree with you on this if for no other reason than you couldn't have stated your case any better and I enjoy some good old pissing on the majority's good time.

Patriotic symbol

Fireworks are the closest thing we get to "the bombs bursting in air".
I believe that this is a 4th of July tradition we should hold on to.

They are a great spectacle.
We are very proud of the display put on locally here
at the lake both on the 4th of July, and on Labor Day weekend.
Our local economy depends on tourism, and the fireworks are popular.

When you have seen them dozens of times, though,
the novelty tends to wear off. Great experience for kids,
and I can recall really enjoying them as a youngster.

The displays are conducted by professionals.
They should know not to operate in dangerous areas and conditions.
Here, if the winds get too high, they will cancel.
Luckily, that's a rare occurrence.

Professional fireworks displays are, on the whole, pretty safe.
The danger lies in individuals setting them off when and where
they should not. That's where the tragedies occur, and strict
policing is required to control illegal usage and distribution.

"CALAIS, Maine - One young Maine man is dead after he put a fireworks mortar on his head and set it off. Safety Spokesperson Steve McCausland says Staples had been drinking with friends at a home in Calais, Maine, Saturday night."

"Hey, boys! Watch this! "

Was everyone sitting around the campfire, playing a few riffs of Dueling Banjos? Come on, this a 2015 Gold Medal Darwin Award winner.

On the main subject, my son loves Fireworks displays and we have seen at least 100 magnificent displays at Niagara Falls or Disney. If done by professionals, they are safe, sophisticated and entertaining.

Just came across the border on Juky2nd to witness a fabulous, 30 minute extravaganza, with music and simulcam, operated at Seneca Niagara Casino. Easily, a couple thousand peeps and the high rollers were feted with free booze food and music, prior to the event.

Fireworks are great.
Never get tired of watching them.
Professional ones, at least.
I'm 7 miles from Finger Lakes and they have them a lot.
Seems like every time someone hits a jackpot they set them off!

Big kick when I was a kid was a ox of sparklers.
Can't get 'em anymore.

Best thing about the 4th is the fireworks.
Right after the sausage and peppers, and beer, and the ice cream cone.

My friend who works at the VA said it's often a tough night for soldiers and people with PTSD. The VA hospital used to have kind of a social party from 9 to midnight in the hospital basement so they wouldn't have to hear the explosives. Always thought that was a cool thing.

They should be banned nationwide.

They offer zero value to anyone. All they do is create an opening for bad things to happen.

Growing up in Queens for most of my life, I've had a stupid punk shoot a firework through our window.

I've watched a teenager destroy their hand.

They ruin ear drums and again have zero positive use in any society.

When I was 18, yes I'd use them to give a gal a romantic time.

Other than that, theres no need for them.

P.S. I can shoot a round of bullets and people will think they're fireworks on or before 7/4. That's insane.
