More than a few of todays athletes control some of the managers, at least in baseball. It appears that in conjunction with their high priced contracts they have some leverage on the managers decisions. Try that on leo "thelip" durocher years ago...or Billy martin.

Times change, these guys don't have other jobs on the side.

That's why it's called being a manager. That entails dealing with the reality not living in the 60s.
