In many ways, it actually is quite comparable...but if you wish to discuss further (and that includes you too RR), take it to off-topic. There's a giant thread there devoted to this obsession.

No thanks. I think RR's black helicopter and tinfoil hat thinking is, thankfully, being ignored by scientists and policymakers, as it should be.

And if you want to know why health officials want to close racetracks, this thread will give you some idea:

The scientists and policymakers who have caused nothing but giant cluster****s from the beginning? Not only in the US but around the globe for the most part? Those geniuses?
The fact that you think scientists and policymakers have a handle on this is laughable.
Take it to off topic or I close the thread.

Hopefully, they will get everything cleared with the Health Board.
They can get all the concerns addressed, keep everybody safe, and all is well in
horse racing land.
If this Santa Anita Derby/ Oaks can go off without a hitch, we might be able to
see an epic showdown with winners of the LA Derby, Florida Derby,
and the Santa Anita Derby going for the ultimate showdown at Oaklawn in the
Arkansas Derby. And maybe a comparable race for fillies.
How cool would that be?
I want everything safe and kosher, of course.
Hopefully this Covid 19 evil will not hit us so bad that this can't happen.
There has to be some joy in Mudville!!

Imagine how sad it would be to not be able to witness two Baffert's in the four-horse Oaks and three Baffert's in the five-horse Derby.

From The Bloodhorse:
Quote:
The Thoroughbred Owners of California, The Stronach Group, and the California Thoroughbred Trainers are working together to persuade the Los Angeles County Department of Health to rescind its March 27 order prohibiting live racing at Santa Anita Park to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
"Allowing the continuation of live racing does not present a health risk to the 1,000 plus workers on the backstretch who live in dormitories at the track and must be at the track every day to support live training of 1,700 horses every day," the TOC said in a March 29 post on its website.
The TOC noted that required care and exercise for animals is already deemed an "essential activity" and urged the county to send inspectors to Santa Anita to witness firsthand the safety and precautions in place.

You can see the spin in that statement. They are arguing for the resumption, not continuation, of racing, but aren't even able to admit that.
And that's actually kind of important. They have to persuade politicians, who are in charge of this thing, that if they reopen, nobody will get the virus. Because if someone does, the politicians who could have left them closed and let them reopen will be blamed.
Good advocacy starts with truthful language.

What is the goal during this ordeal...to make sure that "nobody" gets the virus...or to maintain safe security measures in order to control the spreading of it? Will "nobody" there get the virus if the racetrack is kept shut?

I don’t understand how Santa Anita is closed, but Los Al is still running! The two tracks are less than 35 miles apart.🤔
