Steve Asmussen better watch out!

Jeff Runco just won 7 of 9 races tonight at Charlestown.. if he keeps the pace up he will catch up to Steve's all-time win record in about 5 years.

The Asmussen part I am not commenting on, but they were all WV-bred stakes last night. Isn't Runco's barn all WV- and OH-breds?

And only one was not favored at 9-1!

Has any jockey ever swept a card in the US before? Surely this has to be some sort of record.

Or does Charlestown not count?

Asmussen is easy. he runs 20 horses a day throughout the country. he has a balanced stabile and runs a tremendous program and he has a photographic memory. Steve Asmussen would have been the top of anything in the world that he chose to attempt. i guess he went into horse racing because his family was involved in it before he was born.

Besides being the leading trainer at Charles Town, Runco is also a breeder and owner (Coleswood Farm) of West-Virginia breds. He tends to have some of the best bloodstock (such that it is in WV), so last night - all stakes races restricted to WV-breds - is right in his wheelhouse.

He saddled 16 horses across the 9 races, so he was "only" 7 for 16!
