We might as well give up. And it's not due to lack of public interest- despite COVID restrictions they have had a couple of crowds approach 10,000.

Is there a horse shortage or is the racing secretary not properly writing races for the horses on the grounds?

I would go to SA, my daughter lives 15 min away from there, but from what I have heard you have to bet by phone. Since I live in Az, I am not allowed to bet on SA, GP or other tracks. So why would I want to go and not even be able to bet.

If you have a TVG account, you may want to check with them. Their login includes telling them the state you are currently IN, not where you reside.

I live in Arkansas, but we occasionally travel to Texas. We have access to pretty much everything in Arkansas, but when I cross the border into Texas, I can't (legally, no extra steps) bet via my TVG account because ADWs aren't legal in Texas.

Since you would be going to California, it might be possible to bet via the app (going from a more restricted to less restricted area).

On Preakness day last Saturday I traveled with my family to a reunion in Mississippi. I was making my wagers on the way, via my TVG phone app, and as soon as we entered Miss the app kicked me off.
I tried to log in and say i was in Louisiana, but that didn't work.
I finally went to their website and was able finish my bets.
Oddly, Miss has a sports book at their casinos but you can't bet horses anywhere in the state

I've gone to Santa Anita a few times with the COVID restrictions and you can bet on site without a phone. There are plenty of machines and tellers.

Thought it was interesting that when you click on ticketing, they still have it listed as you certifying that the reservations you're making are for people from one household, and all from in-state!

Agree, taxicab.

It is hard to support a track that doesn't even try to improve it's product. They are either guilty of not knowing how to run a Racetrack...or not caring. Neither is good for a Supporter of it.

California has probably the most severe safety measures and medication policies in place and to some extent that has taken a toll on the available horse population.

With less restrictive rules elsewhere (particularly at Oaklawn), a "pressure gradient" has developed that has led some barns to establish second strings elsewhere at least for part of the year.

Slowly but surely, other jurisdictions are adopting the same or similar policies so theoretically the "horse flight" will eventually settle down (unless disproportionate purses continue to exist), but in the short term, California is in a very vulnerable position.

Hopefully bettors don't think that CA racetracks simply aren't trying. They are caught between a rock and a hard place.

Yeah. They are caught in a State that in no way embraces Horse Racing. At least not anymore. Add in the corruption that has been allowed to fester there over the years...and the case is made for a lot of Bettors to think they aren't trying. The last couple of years have really peeled a lot of layers back on the state of Horse Racing in California. So be it.
