Workouts: Its not how fast they run, but how they run fast

I'm sure most have heard this before but it's so true. There's a right way and a wrong way to evaluate workouts.

A couple things about workout reports

Just about everyone uses the B+ or better workouts so they are almost always overbet

Turf horses who workout on dirt may have poor workout comments but most of the time it's NOT wise to toss them based on a dirt work

Workouts vary from Clocker to Clocker. Sometimes they make deals with other clockers to use one another's workout information to add value to their own reports.

And the number one thing IMO is to finish whatever handicapping process you use FIRST and then let the workout comments help you refine contenders. Worst year I ever had was using them first in the process.

Good luck

One summer I subscribed to two different So. Cal clockers and I was surprised to see that sometimes one thought a horse worked well and the other didn't.

Andy Harrington is very good.

Would be interesting to see how many horses they compare the same/different if you had DRF's report for Friday

I use them more for how a horse finishes up in a workout. Could have a fast time but comes home laboring or the opposite. Also, prefer when a clocker lists the name of the workmate which can be very telling.

I only use Andy Harrington to supplement my normal handicapping approach.

Race 7

CAVE ROCK
Aug 7 DMR 5f fst :59.00 (g)
RATING: B+
Final three furlongs in 35.20 when in a strong battle with Truehood. Tough to separate the pair.
Cave Rock will be a star for Baffert. I believe R7 at Del Mar on August 14, 2022 will be a key race going forward.

Compare this to ANY OTHER SPORT.

Do we follow the exercises of NBA players, NFL or NHL players

FAR too much is made of workouts that often are under 150 pound exercise riders.

The mere fact of their being ABLE to is far more important than any time
